His remake of Straw Dogs is still waiting in the wings, but writer/director Rod Lurie (The Contender, Resurrecting the Champ) has already lined up his next project. THR reports the filmmmaker will next be at the helm of a new thriller called Borderline from writer Justin Marks. The story follows a family taken hostage by fugitives and the father puts everything on the line to engage in a battle of the wits with their kidnapper, who has nothing to lose, and save his wife and daughter. Sounds a bit generic to me, but Voltage Pictures, previously behind The Hurt Locker, and Blue Valentine producer Jamie Patricof are in the mix.
Apparently Lurie is planning on making a movie in the same vein as other "stories of the amoral and on-the-run such as Hud, The Sugarland Express and The Getaway." I guess that has me slightly more interested in the project (interesting that he references The Getaway, another film from Sam Peckinpah, the filmmaker behind the original Straw Dogs), but my attention to the project will likely be based simply on who ends up getting cast as the father and kidnapper. Apparently producers are in the midst of casting the project right now, so it's expected that we should hear something sooner than later. Interested?
