Rupert Grint & David Tennant Lending Voices to 'Postman Pat' Movie

September 16, 2011

Rupert Grint / Postman Pat

Every country seems to have their own beloved childhood characters that never enter our pop culture bubble, and one of them from across the pond is getting the feature film treatment. In a press release, Classic Media and RGH Entertainment announced a big screen adaptation of the British stop-motion animated TV series" Postman Pat." However, the film, titled Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re the One will be a 3D computer animated feature that includes the voice talents of Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise), David Tennant (Fright Night) and more. More below!!

The film will follow everyone’s favorite postman (created in 1981), coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and the friends he loves. British TV star Stephen Mangan ("Episodes") will play the titular postman and in addition to the voices of Grint and Tennant, Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge) will also lend his voice to the animated film. Ironically enough, the latter three actors have all appeared in the Harry Potter franchise (though there aren't many big name British actors who haven't appeared in the multi-billion dollar series). Anyone overseas excited for the movie?

There seem to be a lot of these adaptations of kids animations recently haven't there. Scooby-Doo, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Yogi Bear, Smurfs now Postman Pat. What are the odds that Top Cat will be next?

I'm not exactly overseas, but I can remember the adventures of Postman Pat and his black and white cat on CBC. Nostalgia might just be enough to get me to go see this.

David Tennant doesn't do the voice of the Geico Gecko ...

Okay I enjoyed watching Postman Pat as a kid but the thought of it being made into a movie and one which isn't stop motion just sounds stupid. The stop motion part of Postman Pat was part of it's charm. Maybe it will work, maybe younger audiences will want to watch it but I can see many parents watching this with young ones being disappointed.
