RZA and D.J. Cotrona Are Also Joining the Ranks of 'G.I. Joe' Sequel
by Ethan Anderton
June 28, 2011
Earlier this month we found out Dwayne Johnson was going to lend his muscle to the action figure sequel G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes. The actor would be one of many new talents joining Channing Tatum, one of the few returning cast members from the first film. Now two more names are lining up for some action as Heat Vision reports rapper-turned-actor RZA (above) and "Detroit 1-8-7" star D.J. Cotrona are both negotiating to star in the film. Though we don't know the full story yet, the title suggests an active role for Cobra Commander despite that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not be reprising his villainous role from the first.
RZA will be playing a martial arts master named the Blind Master who in the past trained Joe commandoes Snake-Eyes and Jinx (Elodie Yung) while Cotrona will play Flint, a Joe soldier known best for his trust shotgun and beret. There's been rumblings that the film will focus on the history between Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow, but there's likely more than that in store. Jon Chu, director of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Step Up 2: The Streets, is attached to direct the film in 3D, and there's likely a whole slew of cast members yet to come since these films are made for an ensemble cast. I'm not sure if there's any names that can get me excited about a G.I. Joe sequel, but we'll find out sooner than later.

Please don't make this movie. The Rock can do a much better action movie, too.

Why is JGL not returning? Is he not under contract to return?

He isn't returning because he knows the movie is going to blow just like the first one did.

Thanks JP But is he not contractually obligated to return?

The Rock as Roadblock could definitely work and Cotrona does look kind of like Flint, but I can think of other Joes he looks more like. I'd rather they just lay this to rest. After the first movie I don't know how this could get worse, but I'm sure we'll see how when this is finished.

Don't listen to rap at all. I would assume that both those "artist" are rap? They have no talent names so I would assume.

Why do they get Crappy Directors to do shows like this? I mean seriously, GI Joe was like one of the many Iconic things of the 80's, I think it should get more Credit and better People to make it. Bringing the Rock on to do this was a good idea, however it should have better actors than Channing freaking Tatum. That guys acting is all kinds of terrible. Also it shouldn't be focused on Snake Eyes, Theirs More GI Joe's than just Snake Eyes. I know Snake Eyes was the best Part of the first one but c'mon, that doesn't mean they have to make a second focused mainly on him.

disappointing. i mean, GI Joe was a cult-cartoon back in the 80's. Back then, it gave a real hero-complex relationship on the fight against evil... in fact it was subtitled "the real american hero" but the latter was dropped for obvious reasons. When they made the first film, it did not presented the cartoon the way it should and must be. Please, reboot this as soon possible and do it right. Enough of much CGs...
