Underwhelming, BUT dare I say in a good way....   This trailer showed JUST enough, but didnt give ANYthing away.  I believe the anticipation of this movie is more than enough hype to where they dont have show all the best parts in the trailer like most movies usually do.

Anonymous on Dec 19, 2011

9

Nice. Not gonna follow the hype, just gonna sit back and wait for the release. Bale has been a good Bat thus far and I'm sure he won't disappoint for the third romp in Gotham City. Hardy will be a great Bane and I cannot wait to see the final showdown. I'm in.

Xerxexx on Dec 19, 2011

10

I feel the same way, Xerxexx.  It looks impressive (but let's face it, this trailer is going to be dissected like a frog in Bio class), yet I'm going to wait until I see the finished film before passing judgement. I will say this--I have been very impressed with Nolan's take on Batman.  It isn't perfect--I did have a couple of issues with THE DARK KNIGHT--but the pros far outweigh the cons.  If he nails this third film, then that's one hell of a hat trick.

As much as I like TDK I wasn't that impressed...tbh...I mean it was good, great even...but BB was in my opinion better...I guess TDK suffers in my world because its a sequel.

I agree. I definitely prefer BB to TDK, and I'm pleased that more elements of the mood and atmosphere of BB are cropping up in this trailer.

That's understandable, I like TDK its just BB was a great beginning...TDK was a good follow up...TDKR will be a great conclusion.

I just have to comment on this site's Nolan Ass licking. Nothing about this trailer was outstanding (self-opinionated maybe yes). Some people walking talking and a few action scenes towards the end. Now, Im sure the movie will be great but the way this site promotes absolutely everything Nolan does, without even seeing the final product, is just not professional. It is not only about this trailer either. As soon as Nolan takes a dump you can be sure this site will run a full coverage.

Am I the only one to think that the stadium scene was a little too much over the top?!

Ricardo_PT on Dec 19, 2011

39

No, I agree with you... The first moment I heard about them shooting there, I was like, get football out of my Nolan Batman movie! And this confirms how much football doesn't fit in Nolan's world. But, it's part of Bane's plane to bring down Gotham, so maybe it'll all work out.

Alex Billington on Dec 19, 2011

40

I kinda like the football stadium scene. Imagine the destruction an attack on a fully packed football stadium would reap on the attendees?  It would be remembered for/seared into the minds of people for years upon years. Bane knows this and that's why he gonna do it.

Xerxexx on Dec 19, 2011

41

That's what I'm saying! In the context of Bane bringing down Gotham, that is a huge place to hit, and will leave quite an impact.

Alex Billington on Dec 19, 2011

42

The fear and mayhem it will cause will be volatile! Brilliant writing I think.

Xerxexx on Dec 19, 2011

43

I actually thought that was the best scene of the trailer Alex(along with the prison uprising), but to me the football field scene really stuck in my head, it's never been done like that before...amazing scene..

jah p on Dec 19, 2011

44

I've always said this:  If the terrorists want to truly terrorize us - they don't have to kill scores of people, all they to do is scare the shit out of us and disrupt our daily lives (freeways, agriculture, football stadiums).  Nolan is a smart mutha and I think he knows that carnage is about pushing people subtle so that they rip themselves apart.  On a related note:  I love that these films are about villains that are smarter than the hero.  Not to say that Bruce/Batman is not smart but he is conflicted and these guys aren't and this allows their intellect to overpower everything.  That line that Bane tells him reminds me of the ending of Seven when we all know the killer got what he wanted.

50

With my limited Batman knowledge, Gotham is supposed to be a fabled city. Why do you want to show it as part of America?

Green Apple on Dec 20, 2011

51

@Arun yeah, so is Metropolis, but Superman used to fight for truth, justice and the AMERICAN way, making it a U.S. city, fake  name or not, it is always implied these r American cities, both Gotham and Metropolis were both considered  different versions of New York by their story creators, they just never called it New York City, like Stan Lee did for Spidey and all his Marvel pals

Bigmikeg23 on Dec 22, 2011

52

you're not thinking about it right. You're missing the symbolism. The biggest theme in this movie is social uprising, and class revolution....ala French Revolution. The trailer begins with the NATIONAL ANTHEM...it brings us back to the beginning of this country.Football is one of the biggest staples of American Culture...and Bane is attacking THAT It's huge. It's so necessary as a metaphor, and its not just Nolan doing it for the sake of having a cool action sequence.

VVS on Dec 19, 2011

53

I understand the impact of that scene, it just felt poorly executed, maybe it's the CGI and the guy running with the football while the entire field is collapsing. Looks something I would have seen in 2012, not a nolan movie. I also didn't like the prision uprising but only because I didn't like theway those extras (the inmates) act, holding their guns awkwardly. On the plus side, Caine's dialogue is amazing, probably my favourite scene of the trailer. And i actually liked anne's scene. And bane's voice is amazing, loved it.

Ricardo_PT on Dec 19, 2011

54

it's an EVENT, based in a city, used to perform an act of terror. What better way for Bane 2 show his dominance. Think of it, ur home watching the Superbowl, and, BOOM, the field caves in right b4 ur eyes. I'm sure the whole sequence is no longer than 3 min, tops. It shouldn't matter that Nolan's never shot any sport related footage b4.....just saying

Bigmikeg23 on Dec 20, 2011

55

I know I'm taking a leap here, but I really don't think the point of the stadium caving in is terror. Watch where the lines of the cave-in stop--right at the edge of where the spectator seats begin. So did Bane just miss, or was this intentional? My guess is that Bane is creating an "arena" to fight the Bat in a final showdown before thousands of people--giving Batman a perfect opportunity to redeem himself in front of all of Gotham (and the world)--quite possibly by sacrificing his body, or even his life. I'm not trying to spoil anything for anyone because this hasn't been confirmed or discussed anywhere that I've seen--just my own personal speculation. I'm just taking what actually happens in this scene and pairing it with the final half second clip from the first trailer where Batman and Bane appear to be battling in what looks like the same scenery as what you see in the crater at the football stadium. With that said, I wouldn't be too quick to judge this clip on the assumption that Bane's intentions are to commit an act of terrorism.

Kev on Dec 24, 2011

56

Damn. Nice. I wouldn't have thought of that, but that makes total sense. I have a feeling that Bale's character is going to die, maybe in the scene you're imagining. HOWEVER, I bet that Joseph Gordon-Levitte (spelling?)'s character will be a new batman, and will defeat Bane, making Batman live on. Me too, also taking a leap.

GregDinskisk on Jan 10, 2012

It does exactly what any good trailer should do, leave hints about the story that make us want to see more.  To say its a bad trailer is just plain wrong.  Does it detail out the plot of the story like most trailers nowadays? No.  Would we really want it to? No.  Nolan's films are always better because they open in theaters with at least some element of surprise.

I would have shot the stadium shot much closer, almost like the camera was focused on the chest of the runner, with out of focus explosions in background... then the uniform/player literally drops out of view, swallowed by the earth, and we see the carnage. That my friends is called monday morning quarterbacking.  But it wouldn't be as ripe for parody. Everything else, especially Hathaway, was great.

Geoffrey Shauger on Dec 19, 2011

100

I'm pretty sure the players are not intended to be the focus of the crater in the middle of the stadium. Would Bane really go through that much trouble just to kill 15-20 professional athletes? My guess is Bane is setting up an "arena" to fight the Bat in front of thousands of people--giving Batman a perfect stage to redeem himself in front of all of Gotham--quite possibly with the sacrifice of his body, or even his life. At any rate, the point of the shot is to show the newly formed arena--not the death of the football players. Just my opinion...

Kev on Dec 24, 2011

101

I'm not sure on that version.  The amount of people Bane kills is not the point, its a little like the Joker in that the act of terror itself is the message.  It proves that Bane can do what he says and more...

I am amazed at how you guys are only discussion why the trailer sucked and how the football scene was too over the top, This article should be about dissecting the trailer shot for shot. I loved the Harvey Dent memorial at Wayne Manor (which I'm guessing it is because it looks a lot like the one in Begins. I liked Hathaway and I'm sure she'll do great (we can already tell she did) I'm still wandering where is Bruce when he's at some type of prison and I'm guessing the guy behind him is Alfred I don't know why (it sounds like him I would say). The "when Gotham's in ashes, you have my permission to die" line delivered by Bane was I believe the most intriguing part of the trailer, I thought it was so epic (with Bruce all beaten up). I think  this is going to be great and the Batwing didn't look that bad as well.

Hines Ward isn't half that fast...

LOL

John on Dec 20, 2011

143

yeah, or it's actually hines ward, and all the players had their real names on the back of their jerseys. yep that's the right answer.

Since when does Noland start liking CGI so much? Is it because of Inception? I'm sure the Stadium scene has purpose, but it looks so fabricated...and the ship flying over the camo-bat-tank felt the same. However, any Noland movie commands a degree of respect. He's a fine director and has a terrific cast to lead this finale. But is it wrong to still hate the decision of adding Catwoman or selecting Hathaway for her part? Didn't like the pick before this trailer, and I definitely don't like it now.

quazi58 on Dec 19, 2011

145

Yeah that stadium scene confuses the hell out of me. I don't understand how a movie with so much budget can have such terrible CG and go so far as to show it off in the trailer. Strangely enough the bat plane wasn't CG but a large prop. I remember seeing photos of the closed off roads and the filming of that scene.

Josh Taylor on Dec 19, 2011

146

The Batwing is actually a "prop". As for Catwoman/Hathaway, wait until you see the movie? People were still not sold on Ledger even after the trailers...

147

"People were still not sold on Ledger even after the trailers..." Uh, NO... not really! Nice try, though.

John on Dec 20, 2011

148

the batwing scene wasn't cgi.  several people recorded them shooting that scene.

Tom Anderson on Dec 19, 2011

149

that's true

Conrad Williams on Dec 30, 2011

150

The fact that you thought the real life, physically there Batwing was bad CGI completely destroys anything you say about things that actually are CGI.  You can't tell the difference between real life and so called "bad CGI." The Stadium scene isn't perfect, but its far from bad.  The CGI in Inception wasn't any better and that was hardly a distraction and I'm sure there will be a lot less of it in this film.

What do you guys want? the whole movie online already? This is 1 trailer , theres sure to be another and the teaser trailer doesn't count, i think it looks awesome and i'm glad Nolan is getting it right. 2 of the best superheroes- Batman and Spiderman , 2 best villians , Joker and Venom. Bane is gonna be sick , just look how well done Scarecrow was in BB . Have faith

Horseflesh on Dec 19, 2011

155

I have faith in bane as a character in this universe. I just think he should've showed a little more then the one bane line in the trailer. let's face it no one really cares about the character development off Bruce and Alfred. Caine is just a great presence with little involvement in the scope of things. He's there to get Bruce to tell the audience what he thinks of it all.

Dbarton0720 on Feb 11, 2012

156

Its not really even about Bruce or Batman. Its about the adversity Batman faces, in other words the villain. I honestly could care less about bruce.s human interactions. Sorry typing on a phone.

Dbarton0720 on Feb 11, 2012

157

Cool. I see a cane in there. Looks like the Bat's back does break? This'll be a "guy date night" where I take the one friend my wife never wants me to take. Y'know? The dude we get drunk with twice a year. Anyway.  By they way, people throw epic around like "awesome" in the 80's. We need a new word.

Occupy Gotham?!? dosent look like a must see to me. looks a bit hogwash.

happy camper on Dec 19, 2011

159

Christian Bale just doesn't do it for me. The voice and the way he acts feels like a wannabe try too hard batman. The villians steal the show like Joker and Anne Hathaway looks like she will be an interesting catwoman, maybe not michelle pfeiffer good but definately better than Hale Berry. Bane looks really good too. Tom Hardy is a big guy and hopefully will do the part justice.

Tenorio Taylor28 on Dec 19, 2011

160

You're kind of late to question Bale as Bats.

Xerxexx on Dec 19, 2011

161

Hardy WILL do a gr8 job, but he's not that big, i think he's shorter than Bale, it's all camera angles, like LOTR, used to alter visual perception

Hines Ward scored a touchdown!!

two things: I love that Nolan is including new scenes from the League of Shadows training days from the first film.  Also, how fuckin' badass does JGL look in that scene?!  Something about his inclusion in the last two films have given weight to them.

Alejo on Dec 19, 2011

It looked to me like he's going back for more training. Notice the cain? I think his back breaks and he goes to retrain.

Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise continues with this Warner Bros. release, the third in the series. The story will pick up after the events of The Dark Knight, with David Goyer once again working on the script.

You think Bruce gets done for dodgy banking? It looks good, I never wet the bed too much about Batman, but it does look pretty decent.

evry1 is a critic. some ppl say trailers give away 2 much, some say they give away 2 little, i have no problem with this trailer, it does what a gr8 trailer is supposed 2 do, whet ur appetite for the movie, and i think it did that amazingly well. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, evry1 bitching and moaning she will ruin the movie, needs 2 let their bias go and watch the performance b4 passing judgment, just like Heath as Joker, i remember the uproar 4 that 1 when it was announced. Also, if this site is heavy on the pro - Nolan side what's wrong with that, until he completely screws up on a movie i see no problem giving credit where credit is due......just saying

Bigmikeg23 on Dec 20, 2011

I think the dark knight trailer showed heath was the right choice. This trailer just further proves she was a terrible choice.

all these comments saying they expected more, the movie comes out on July 20th, 2012, you'll get more then

Bigmikeg23 on Dec 20, 2011

trailer is BAD really, you can hear some voices are set to high and sounds like comentary for video, showing off bane in first seconds in such a UNISPIRING way is stupid, the person that created that trailer should be fired its really amatureish. Still belive movie gonna rock but trailer is pure crap (especialy for such a AAA movie like this)

a few confused murmurs in the theatre when this was shown. why the football scene????the whole thing about batman for me was it was an alternate city and time/place. Now this just looks so so american with the anthem and stupid game getting blown up. Why!!! hes an english director with english actors(most) doin cheesy american. nolan has lost it this time.hes mortal guys hahaha

well id agree, thanks....  but im surprised by the clip, surprised of the story arc.  more than enough people agree with me on the trailer buzz on this site wouldnt you say. its open to interpretation, and nolan isnt the be all you thought he was.

truedat on Dec 20, 2011

182

I think it's far too early for you to make that statement. You're taking a little over 2 minutes of footage that's jumbled together to conclude major issues. Not perceptive in my opinion. Besides, Nolan never created a Gotham universe devoid of the rest of the world we know. Remember in TDK he went to Hong Kong. He dated a Russian ballerina. In this clip there's football. What's your point? So a few people agree with you. Great. A few people can agree with any one on any thing at any time. Doesn't make them correct. Relax. Wait for the film. I'm sure it will be entertaining. It's a movie for the Lord's sake.

I love how these films have everything to do with what's going on in the world right now, yet they will always remain timeless in story.

Mchertron on Dec 20, 2011

I think I have the story-arch figured out. Batman is a conservative. He represents law, order, free-markets, the status-quo, and all the inequities that come with it. Rather than prevent social ill he simply reacts to it violently. Blames the individual rather than society or circumstances despite he also being a product of the later. Batman Begins = Conservatism vs. "Fascism/Nazism" of Ras Al Ghul Dark Knight = Conservatism vs. Anarchy/Terrorism of the Joker DK Rises = Conservatism vs. Class Warfare/Communism of Bane & Catwoman The trilogy is really Nolan's take of conservatism's three 20th century archenemies and how & why conservatism triumphed in the end.

Hdezcanton on Dec 22, 2011

186

No. Just no. No. No. Whilst being reluctant to bother responding to this I will point out society/circumstance is a big part of batman in general, he is a result of having his parents killed, his debate over his responsibility in Harvey Dent's fate a major part of TDK and, traditionally, whether he created the Joker.  There's no representation of Bane as a communist. Sure the "live so large and leave so little for the rest of us" is quite socialist in Catwoman but Bane is a terrorist who has strong links (we assume) to Ras al Ghul and the league of shadows. No. Just no. Please. No. How could you watch these movies and come up with politics? No. No. NOOOOOOOOOOO. This irritates me more than the hating on the trailer. ('s only a trailer chillax) No.

ARRRRGH. on Dec 23, 2011

Hopefully the film can change my mind but I still think Anne Hathaway as Catwoman was poor casting on Nolan's part

Yves on Dec 23, 2011

So what I'm calling/thinking is that when Bruce (I think it's him) walks to the covered tray at the beginning, inside of it is the mask saying that he should be Batman again. I don't know the Batman story but I think it's something like that.
