Sigur Rós' Jónsi Scoring Cameron Crowe's New Film 'We Bought a Zoo'

This sounds like it might be amazing. According to a tweet from The A.V. Club's Todd VanDerWerff (via The Playlist), musician Jónsi, the vocalist/guitarist from Icelandic band Sigur Rós, will be scoring the new Cameron Crowe movie We Bought a Zoo. "Everybody add him to your Oscar predictions all at once," he joked from the TCAs. That's a damn good point! We Bought a Zoo is Crowe's adaptation of Benjamin Mee's book, starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Elle Fanning, Patrick Fugit and Thomas Haden Church. Crowe, who's a musical genius, has been teasing the music for a couple of weeks, but now we know it's Jónsi.
A follow-up confirmation from Anne Thompson confirmed it would be Jónsi and even included a new comment on Sigur Ros from Crowe himself. "It was a music-filled experience," he said. "Matt Damon loves Sigur Ros. We played some of the music on his first day on set, and he said, 'Keep it coming man, keep it coming.'" I'm a big fan of Sigur Ros myself, and I've loved seeing this trend of using real musicians to create music scores continue on. It also keeps earning some of them Oscars. I'm already anxious to see some footage from We Bought a Zoo anyway, and maybe the first trailer will include some of Jónsi's work, as that would be quite a tease of what's to come in December, since this won't hit theaters until Christmas weekend.
We last featured some first look photos for We Bought a Zoo back in May, and Cameron Crowe has still been tweeting away on his @cameroncrowe account, so it's easy to keep up with them. Though recently he's been rather focused on Pearl Jam and that PJ20 documentary. But it's great to hear that Sigur Ros will now have somewhat of an involvement, as they've been one of those bands whose music gets used a lot in trailers, now Jónsi has a chance to create his own original score for a Cameron Crowe film and I have a feeling it's going to be fantastic. Columbia has We Bought a Zoo scheduled for release December 23rd this holiday season.

"I've loved seeing this trend of using 'real musicians' to create music scores..." So film composers don't make the cut as real musicians.

No worries. It's just an odd sentence when you consider the caliber of people doing film scores everyday. It jumped out at me when I read the article. But I totally get what you mean. Jónsi will be interesting.

Amazing write-up! This could aid plenty of people find out more about this particular issue. Are you keen to integrate video clips coupled with these? It would absolutely help out. Your conclusion was spot on and thanks to you; I probably won’t have to describe everything to my pals. I can simply direct them here!
