Simon West Wants to Make 'Con Air 2' & Salvador Dali Fantasy Film

We already know that Nicolas Cage will re-team with director Simon West for the action thriller Medalliion, the story of a father and former master thief who has only a few hours to find his daughter when she is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a New York medallion taxi cab. However, apparently West is interested in working with Cage for a sequel to one of my favorite action flicks from the 90's. Crave Online recently spoke with the filmmaker who revealed that one of his current dream projects is Con-Air 2, the sequel to the 1997 high-flying, crazy action flick with Nicolas Cage aboard a plane full of dangerous convicts.
West told Crave, "Con Air 2, I'd like to do. It'd be great. It's a matter of getting everybody together. There's so many people involved and it's about getting everybody to agree. But I'm going to bring it up to Nic. I'm going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we'll go after the others." In addition, West also vaguely mentioned another interesting project that he'd like to get off the ground. He doesn't give much details but the director said, "But there's also Dali, which is a big CG/fantasy thing about Salvador Dali that I want to do. I've just got a little stack of them on my shelf that I'm trying to work my way through. A huge children's fantasy film. Hopefully I'll soon be working my way through that stack.
A huge children's fantasy film from Simon West? That could be interesting. And some sort of CG/fantasy flick about the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali sounds like quite a trip. However, I'm partial to seeing a Con-Air sequel get off the ground sooner than later. I'm not even sure where the story would go since the first film migrated from Con-Air to Con-Firetruck towards the end. Maybe we'll see something literally out of this world like Con-Space? the possibilities are endless! Are you interested in a Con-Air 2?

I'm gonna ignore CA2 and talk about the Salvdor Dali. His art his fantastic, "The Ship: is one of his best paintings, I'd much rather see a film about Dali then a Con Air sequel.

whoa - a little culture on FS?........cool!.........does this mean i can discuss why i think classical music is MUCH better than opera singing?

indeed, I'm partial to Arvo Part and Chopin. Opera for me is only good in small dosages, as of right now I'm hooked on "Vide cor Meum" by Patrick Cassidy, used in Kingdom of Heaven and Hannibal, I find it beautiful.

buddy!..........agree on "Vide cor Meum" - it is beautiful and perfect for both movies. i can listen to about any classical music - a few i'm partial to: canon in D from pachelbel fur elise from bethoven spring from vivaldi you know - i can't stand opera singing. classical music is so nice to relax to but opera just sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard - it makes me want to puncture my eardrums. hey - i just watched "takers" and "red". i l really enjoyed both. i kept hearing on here how people hated takers but i found it to be a very stylish bank heist movie. and red was just good fun (john malkovich was GREAT!)

classical music transcends time, the pieces created by the great composers are ageless, many musicians fall to the testament of time but Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Mozart, Pärt, Barber and many many more will be talked about forever. I might check out Takers, Red is definitely a rent.

you said it! only thing about takers was i didn't like the end, which was kind of a WTF moment. there was one scene which i REALLY liked how the director chose to shoot it - but i'll let you watch the movie before i ask you about it.

Not to intrude on your conversation here, but I just had to chime in on the subject of classical music, because I just so happened to listen to some myself as I was reading the comments. I think aside from maybe Clint Mansell and John Murphy only classical music manages to make me weep while listening to it. Something about it just touches me deeply and pulls on my heartstrings. One of my favorite pieces of classical music are Smetana's Vltava and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Absolutely amazing that some people back then were able to compose such magnificent musical masterpieces. /end rant

suicidaloptimist - it's never an interruption when you add to the conversation! moonlight sonata and Vltava are excellent pieces. i just listed 3 that were on the top of my head - i enjoy hard rock as well, but i'll always have time for most classical music as well.

I don't know what plot device they could use to get Nic Cage back on a plane with a bunch of convicts that would not appear contrived. This idea should remain stillborn.

Con Air is one of those films I imagine getting a direct-to-video sequel, especially since I see no way there can be a sequel with the same characters.

May Con Air 2 will be on a boat. It could be called Love Boat: Con Style or maybe like tommyturner suggests....Con Harder or something like that...and there could be a lot of butt secks...except it would be guy-on-guy butt secks...which isn't so cool.

what if they add a love story to the sequel?.......would it be a rom-CON? sorry - that was just awful.

Well, Cyrus got his face smashed in and Johnny 23 would only be a threat to people paralyzed from the neck down seeing how he lost both arms. Worst rapist ever. =P

@ SuicidalOptimist Moonlight Sonata is a fantastic piece. Classical evokes many emotions while I listen too it. happy, sad, angry, melancholy, emotions all emerge.

I would have to say No to this one. Con Air was not that good. Cage's accent really bugged me in that film as well. The film was ok but thats about it. We don't need Cage doing anymore sequals. It's bad enough that we got sequals to "National Treasure" and "Ghost Rider". I used to be a big fan of Cages but he repeats the same performance in every movie movie he has been doing lately.

They pretty much killed everyone off at the end ...... Not to mention Cameron Poe wouldn't be a Con at this point. They would really have to get the story to reconnect everyone left involved somehow and get new cons who are tough enough for the role. And for pete's sake don't say anything about Bieber or any other lame new age celebrity.
