Sound Off: Warner Bros' 'The Hangover Part II' - What Did You Think?

The Hangover Part II

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? In the summer of 2009, Warner Bros introduced us to the forever unforgettable Wolfpack: Bradley Cooper as Phil, Ed Helms as Stu, Justin Bartha as Doug and Zach Galifianakis as Alan. And I guess we should throw Ken Jeong in there, too. They're back again in a sequel, this time headed to Bangkok for more alcohol fueled misadventures into the unknown. And how is this sequel? Is it as funny as the original breakout comedy or better? Is their adventure in Bangkok crazier or tamer? If you've seen it, leave a comment below and tell us what you thought of The Hangover Part II.

Note: I have not actually seen The Hangover Part Deuce yet, as I never had the chance to see it while on my trip to Cannes. It is playing in theaters now, so I will go see it this weekend, but in the meantime I wanted to open up the discussion for those that have seen it and want to talk about it already. Spoilers may be found below, so carry on at your own discretion. I'll update this with my thoughts once I've seen it.

What did you think of The Hangover Part II? A hilarious sequel or repetitive waste of time? We will remove any comments that indicate you have not seen the movie, as this area is meant to discuss the film only once you have seen it and can talk about your thoughts. Please keep the comments civilized!

Movie was just to funny. I thought it was better than the first. It was way more funny.

2

I actually think it was worse than the first.

Just been to see it here in Dublin.....was good to see the boys back again. There was some good lines but not a patch on the first.....found myself saying after it "pphh". Which sucks cause I was really dying for this to blow the doors off this summer.

Yea i found the movie hilarious. Not sure it beat the first however. And you shouldn't have hoped for The Hangover to blow the doors off for the summer (cuz it can't compare with) when Thor did already. And so will Super 8

It was funny, but nothing special. Mostly felt like a rehash of plot/jokes from the first with more emphasis on gross out humor. Because it definitely had a "been there, done that" feel to it, there didn't seem to be much gravity to any situation. They'd go places and do things but the reactions didn't seem as big or funny this time around. I enjoyed it and got some good laughs, but on repeat viewings I'd much rather see the first.

I couldn't of said it better. The whole time I was watching it I couldn't help but think that the movie was just trying to hard to live up to the first. Still laughed quite a lot though.

same stuff, different place. it was alright, nothing to better or worse than the first.

Meh.  Quite frankly, I walked out of the theater thinking "there's an hour and a half of my life I can't get back."  It would have been great as a rental, but paying that much to see it in the theater hurts.

It was very popular here in Bangkok, the theatre was sold out ! I got the last 4 tickets. The movie follows the same pattern as the first, but it plays off that "oh sht..we did it again", and there a lot of really funny scenes. Chow rules.

I loved it. Just another good ole dirty comedy.

I just got back from the theater....Ahhh it was decent, it had some great moment, funny scenes BUT there is one scene that was hilarious and stands out..."Classic Stu" that's all I have to say. For the people who have seen it, know what I speak off...to the one's that still haven't...you'll see lmao

Not as funny as the original and a lot of the humor came from referencing the first one but it was still funny as hell.

pretty funny film, formula is predictable so it will never beat the first viewing experience of the original. Galifianakis is hilarious as usual!

it was pretty funny

It was funny. I felt like the first one, the situations where hysterical, this one they paid more attention to the dialogue. A lot of subtle, but hilarious one-liners. Its a good companion/remake to the first.

While the biggest complaint about the film is that it is a complete rehash of the original, it was not something that I minded all that much and I still found the film extremely funny.  The original film is still better at the end of the day, but I still found lots to like with this film.

Ehh.... it was okay but then I thought the first one was overrated.

The funniest movie I have seen in a long time.  I see the similarities between the first movie and this one, but it didn't matter one bit to me.  It was all in the dialogue and thrilling antics of the characters I love.

32

I thought it was hilarious. My girlfriend and I watched the original just before we went to see the sequel, to me it seems like they left more room for Alan to develop into his crazy, unbelievable character. I rather enjoyed the sequel but dont know how they are going to top it if they do a third film in this franchise.

Ryans_97 on May 28, 2011

33

I thought it to be meh..... The audience I attended it with didn't really respond much with laughter.

34

it was the same plot but different punch lines, jokes, and location. in other words, IT WAS FUNNY!!! if you liked the first one then you will very much love the sequel. def did not disappoint!!

ZachS on May 29, 2011

35

As with just about any sequel, not as good as the first, simply because the novelty is missing. Dragged a great deal during the middle. I thought the best line came near the very end. Galifianakis saying, "Sorry about the last minute change in performance. He was supposed to sing Burn it Up by the Jonas Brothers, but then I remembered you guys don't like Indie Rock." F*ing hilarious.

Sinead on May 29, 2011

36

Not very good and I'm a huge Todd Phillips fan so I was dissappointed. This one did not live up to par. There was no excitement to the storyline. Total rehash. Only 2 really great parts. Stay home and watch the 1st one again for the 27th time- save the dough.

Craig on May 29, 2011

I went to the theater expecting what everyone knows by now: it's EXACTLY the same movie but in a different scenario. What I found was... EXACTLY the same movie in a different scenario, but with a couple of extra jokes and situations a little bit more... sick? Anyway, I didn't like the movie as much as I liked the first one.  It's a blatant repetition but without the same spark and spontaneity. Some jokes were hilarious in the first one, but now (since it is the same movie), you are actually expecting them to happen... Ah, and it's worth mentioning that they took the Alan character and used it as much as they could possibly do, presenting him as an even bigger-dumber-crazier version of his hangover-1-self. If I had to say a number, it would be 5 out of 10.

Leinergroove on May 29, 2011

38

First one was way better. This was a 2-3/5. And it's getting some points just because I enjoyed seeing BKK through a Hollywood lense, since I live in Bangkok & recognize most places.

fantastic! whole cinema was rocking with laughter..yea its similar to the first one but the new location and more mr chow made this movie work..well done todd phillips!

I was bored half way through because i new exactly what i was going to get and I wanted something more, something new, something different... that just was'nt there, if you wanna sit for an hour and a half and laugh 4 times during that time, this movie is for you... however I would reccommend watching a couple of episodes of family guy instead, youll laugh a whole lot more

I went into it thinking it was gonna be cheesy that all of the same stuff 'just happened' to have happened a second time. But I really liked that throughout the film, they acknowledge how ridiculous it is that something so similar to the first one would happen again. In a way, parts are sort of a copy and paste of the first but different enough to still be completely unexpected and outrageous.  They make it a part of the script that these guys are so dysfunctional and messed up that this same kind of stuff keeps happening to them.I have a feeling there will be a Part III. Maybe in England. Remember when Alan kept asking Phil if they would still be friends even in Great Britain and England? Might be a little hint for a sequel...

This movie was a hangover in itself. Oh and by the way a transexual as a butt of a joke, is below the belt. Todd phillps went for the cash grab.

It was amuzing to watch, but there were no suprises. I liked the Alan-town adapation 🙂

Basman22 on May 30, 2011

46

Honestly I think the this one was not as good as the first. The jokes were not as funny and seems like they made it just to make money. Zach G's character had even better lines in this one. I will admit I had a few LOL moments but not as much as I did in the first. Although I did learn that Mike Tyson is a horrible actor and singer in this movie. I hope they don't make a third if it is going to be as bad as this one.

It was pretty good in my opinion. The thai kid was a horrible actor though.
