Summer of 2013 is Already Being Filled Up: 'Fast & Furious 6' & More

We haven't even launched our own 2013 release schedule yet, but the studios have already filled it up! Over the last few weeks, movie studios have been scheduling a few big summer 2013 movies. Notably, Vin Diesel announced that the next Fast & Furious, the 6th one, is now scheduled to arrive on May 24th, 2013, Memorial Day. No other details are available, but Justin Lin is expected to return to direct. Universal also scheduled the supernatural comic book adaptation R.I.P.D., featuring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, for June 28th, 2013, just a few weeks later. That's not all - we'll review the full summer 2013 calendar below.
As it stands, here's how the line-up for the summer of 2013 (that's 678 days away) looks. We've listed the calendar with confirmed release dates as best we could, so here's what they've got lined-up from Hollywood.
Summer of 2013 Movie Line-Up:
Release dates fully updated as of August 24th, 2011.
May 3, 2013:
Iron Man 3 - Written & directed by Shane Black (of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).
May 10, 2013:
Mommy and Me - Comedy directed by Stanley Tucci, starring Meryl Streep and Tina Fey.
May 17, 2013:
Singularity - New sci-fi project from Roland Emmerich, but nothing else known about it.
May 24, 2013:
Fast & Furious 6 - Directed by Justin Lin (most likely), written by Chris Morgan.
Leafmen - From Blue Sky's Chris Wedge, story about a colony of bugs, based on William Joyce's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs."
June 14, 2013:
Man of Steel - Zack Snyder's new Superman reboot, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.
June 21, 2013:
Monsters University - From Pixar, college-set prequel to Monsters Inc, directed by Dan Scanlon.
June 28, 2013:
R.I.P.D. - Directed by Robert Schwentke, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.
July 3, 2013:
Despicable Me 2 - From Illumination Ent., sequel to Steve Carell's comedy Despicable Me.
July 12, 2013:
Pacific Rim - Legendary Pictures' new sci-fi monster movie, directed by Guillermo del Toro.
July 19, 2013:
Oblivion - New sci-fi from Joseph Kosinski (of Tron Legacy), set to star Tom Cruise.
Turbo - From DreamWorks Animation about "fastest snail in the world" with Ryan Reynolds.
July 26, 2013:
Thor 2 - Marvel's sequel to Thor starring Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder again.
August 2, 2013:
The Smurfs 2 - Sequel to the Raja Gosnell's 3D movie The Smurfs, starring more of the lil blue guys.
Of course, since we're still so far out, anything can (and most likely will) change, especially as we continue on with this summer and next summer (plus hey, you never know). Is it a bad idea for studios to set official dates this far out? Maybe it puts a little too much pressure on the filmmakers. But so far, if they can actually finish some of these movies and even start scheduling additional sequels (what about Green Lantern 2 in 2013?) it should be a great follow-up to the rather amazing summer of 2012. At the least we'll get to see the long-awaited sequel to Monsters Inc we've been waiting since 2001 for. Plus, Pixar also recently scheduled a "mystery" movie for late 2013 - on November 27th, 2013, an original project, but it's currently untitled.
While we wait for 2013 to roll around, you can find our 2011 and 2012 schedules filled completely with dates. As always we'll keep you updated on all upcoming movies, whether in 2012, 2013, 2014 or beyond!

It's a start. I'm still thinking about July. Also, 2012 looks great. However, seriously? Another Fast and Furious? Well...OK! I guess if it works keep doing it, right? (When I say works, I mean the $$$, not the storyline) 😉

@Alex Billington Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is coming out in the Summer of 2013, so it should be added to that list above.

Didn't I hear that Depp doesn't really want to do anymore? I hope they don't do another one.....

No, he does want to do more, but he said he wants them to be special, so in other words he is basically saying that he wants them to be spaced out, meaning having to do with how much time there is between each movie, every time one is released to movie theaters, and when they film them. But i did hear in a video on YouTube that was a 4 part video, showing the recent Pirates marathon event at the El Capitan Theatre, one of the actors from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies was there, and he had announced that Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is coming out in 2013. Oh, and i believe the actor who said that there in the video on YouTueb that i saw, his name is Greg Ellis.

your right, they plan on a second trilogy with this but Depp doesnt want them rushed like they did with 2 & 3

Well, with Pirates of the Caribbean 5, if they have it come out 2 years after Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides did, hopefully Depp will think that that's a long enough wait, between Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides and Pirates of the Caribbean 5. I doubt that they would rush on the production of Pirates of the Caribbean 5, because it will not be filmed back to back with Pirates of the Caribbean 6, like they unfortunately did with Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End, and they did rush the production of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End.

I REEEEEALY hope they take their time with 5 and 6 then. I really didn't like 2 and detested 3. they need to come up with a story with villains that I want to see get theirs. When cutler Beckett died, I didn't really care Because they didn't really flesh him out. Davey Jones should have been the main villain and he deserved a better death. Not only that but I kind of felt his character was wasted. I won't be seeing 4 until it's on netflix.

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides comes out on to DVD and Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray on October 18th 2011 Tuesday, it will be 4 months, almost 3 months until you'll likely see it on netflix, unless they release it on nexflix early.

At El Capitan (I was there 🙂 ) Greg Ellis was reading a message from Terry Rossio (writer), saying that they were looking forward to the 10th Anniversary of COTBP in 2013 and that POTC 5 would also be be released then. To Chris A, Johnny just said that he didn't want to do a film straight away (the first - Dark Shadows, Lone Range, then Pirates) and have the next movie out by Christmas.

Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 wont be out by Christmas 2012, it will be out by Summer 2013, possibly in May like Pirates 3 and Pirates 4, when they were released in May of 2007 and May of 2011. My best guess for Pirates 5's time of release would be May 2013.

Oh, okay. But, it does already have a 2013 release year, even though it doesn't have an estimated month and year date or full month, day and year full theatrical release date in 2013 yet.

Iron Man 3 after Iron Man 2. Dark Tower without a proper shooting schedule. Fast Furious 6. Loved 5 but I don't really need to keep seeing this. Turbo. Sounds like a film for children under the age of 4. Monsters University. After Cars 2? Bring on the untitled movie instead. RIPD. Ryan Reynolds, superhero movie? Pass. Despicable Me 2? First one wasn't a classic and how many CGI sequels are good besides TS2/3? Oblivion after the horrible and boring Tron Legacy? Screw that.

I've seen concept art for Oblivion. It looks interesting. It's like a Post-Apocalyptic Jetsons type world.

Okay, off topic sure, but Alex: your "FnF 2013" picture/photoshop job needs to be the OFFICIAL Fast and Furious graphic. Whenever news breaks just photoshop the major keyword on the back of that shirt and hit save. Or just post the original and I'll do it for ya.
