Prometheus Teaser Trailer

It's time. 20th Century Fox has finally officially unveiled the first teaser trailer via Apple for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, his long-awaited return to science fiction and space thrillers, plus rumored return to the Alien universe. Noomi Rapace (from the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron star, along with Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall and Patrick Wilson. This is just our first teaser, so it's short, doesn't reveal too much, but does give us all an awesome first look at what to expect, I'm so excited, I think Ridley is truly returning to his roots with this. Fire it up!

A team of explorers find a clue to the origins of man on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe… There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus is directed by legendary Oscar nominated filmmaker Ridley Scott, who started it all with Alien and Blade Runner, also directing Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, Body of Lies and Robin Hood most recently. The screenplay was originally written by Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour), then updated by Damon Lindelof of "Lost" and Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek 2. Fox has Prometheus scheduled to hit theaters on June 8th, 2012 next summer. Are you ready?

That's the weirdest advertising ever, 3 teasers and a no show of a trailer.

2

I agree, although it looks cool, all we are shown here is what we have sen in the last 3 teasers.. Excited about this movie, but I will try to avoid the hype if at all possible.

you can never avoid the hype the hype has you now haha

You've seen ALL of this footage in the last three trailers? Really?

I was referring to the trailer being removed on release, the actual trailer showed me more than enough, I am very happy in my eyes now.

"Excited about this movie, but I will try to avoid the hype if at all possible" Nothing wrong with that, Tester.  Personally, I'm very interested in the film...but while I did like the trailer, I'm much more interested in seeing the completed movie next June.  Plus, it's Ridley Scott returning to science fiction....and since his only two SF films have been ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER, then this film certainly has my interest.  Yet, the hype is going to be inevitable (see what's been going on with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES....).

Methinks that was the general idea....and it ain't a bad thing.  That trailer still manages to scare the s**t out of me.

15

it looks visually stunning.........and it's RS - so, i'm hoping it'll be great. that being said - hard  to tell (besides visuals) if acting, pacing, story will be excellent. except for fassbender, the cast doesn't amaze me and damon lindelofs involvement doesn't bolster my hopes either (after the mess he made of "lost" during it's last 4 years)

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

16

The cast doesn't amaze you really? I think the cast is great, but to each their own and yea lets hope its more than just a pretty looking movie!

TheLaughingMan on Dec 22, 2011

17

i LOVE fassbender (as i stated above) but the rest doesn't do it. i don't think CT fits this type of roll and the rest are all "meh". big agree on  hoping it's more than a pretty movie.

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

18

Guy Pearce meh?

Frisk me hard on Dec 22, 2011

19

Charlize may suprise us, she has done some outstanding performances... as has Guy... ... but I agree those two can be meh... ... but with Ridley Scott I HIGHLY doubt that would be the case in Prometheus.

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

20

He was pretty meh in Time Machine, which in itself was a suckfest, so by comparison he didn't seem that bad. On the whole, though, you're right.  It's kind of strange to just go, "meh" when you see or hear his name.  His filmography is pretty well stacked with award worthy performances he's hardly been recognized for.  He's done a few stinkers, but he's still one of my favorites.  I didn't go meh at Mel Gibson in The Beaver after his Jew rant and angry phone calls.  It would take a lot to get me to "meh" at the mention of Guy Pearce.

People like you are the reason actors/actresses get typecast.

IanKuah on Dec 22, 2011

22

Idris Elba should make a fine ship captain if I got his role right. As for Naoomi Rapace, Ridley speeks highly of her capabilities. And, I don't think casting Sigourney Weaver amazed people at the time, however she did great, didn't she.

Robert L. Tuva on Dec 22, 2011

23

True I may just be letting my man crush on Guy get the better of me lol but what about Idris Elba?If you haven't seen him on the show Luther your really missing out!!!

TheLaughingMan on Dec 23, 2011

24

you don't have to sell me on elba - i thought he was very good in "rock and rolla" and "takers". (many people didn't like "takers" - but i thought it was an ok watch) i actually  like elba BETTER than GP. look, i'm NOT saying there aren't talented people here. i do enjoy GP and elba. i just singled out fassbender due to some recently excellent performances. i just don't see the chemistry with this group of actors. you're right about elba, though. i just didn't realize what an uproar my seemingly harmless original quote would cause. and for eveyone - i'm not going to defend or respond to any defense of the rest of the actors (including CT - i don't like her work and could EASILY think of a half dozen female leads i'd rather see in this movie) AND - as a collective group of talent for a movie, i don't see the chemistry here. as someone said earlier, i'm just going to trust RS  on this.......just like i'm trusting him to NOT let lindelof ruin the story.

I think I saw Guy Pierce's name at the end. It was real quick though. If he is in this, I didn't know it. I love that guy, he's always great.

grimjob on Dec 22, 2011

31

Yes, Guy Pearce's name is in the credits at 1:05 of the trailer. It's listed directly after Michael Fassbender.

how exactly am i trolling? i'm not hating at all. and who are the boobs who agreed with  you? do ANY of you idiots have an idea of what  a "troll" on the internet is?

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

33

Agreed, beevis...but Lindelof's involvement doesn't bug me, since Scott brought him in, at least according to reports I've read (but if I'm wrong, I stand corrected). And look at it this way...RS directed ALIEN which was written by Dan O'Bannon...and back then, I wonder if people would have said, "Geez!  THAT guy?  Didn't he work on that POS film DARK STAR?" For me, the main draw is Ridley Scott returning to SF....but your concerns are valid.  You ain't a troll!

Anonymous on Dec 23, 2011

34

i see your point. and, as i mentioned above, i do hope that RS maintains control of the story enough that DL doesn't ruin it. man......DS was a horrible film - i'd tried to blot that out of my mind!!

Anonymous on Dec 23, 2011

35

"man......DS was a horrible film - i'd tried to blot that out of my mind!" Yikes!  Apologies for bringing it up! 😎

Anonymous on Dec 23, 2011

36

I agree. This looks like it could good either way: either really great (which I hope it is) or terrible (possibility since Ridley hasn't really had a good movie in years). On top of your concerns, I hope this doesn't try to explain too much of the Alien backstory. The fact that the Alien had no story or motivation (except its natural instinct to survive) is what made it such a fearful creature and made the first movie work. As I mentioned on one of the teaser for the teaser pages, that is clearly the space jockey ship crashing on LV426 with people scattering. Personally, I did not need to know how it got there, I feel that was best left to the imagination. I think with Lost Lindelhof & co explained too much of the island erasing the mystic of the show in the end, I hope they don't repeat that mistake here.

blester01 on Dec 23, 2011

37

first - the last great movie RS had (for me) was "kingdom of heaven" and i loved it - still watch it regularly on blu.....and that was 5 or six years ago. while i liked "robin hood" - it still ended up as being disappointing (considering it was a RS film). agree on not telling too much backstory.......part of what will make this good is maintaining some mystery! and buddy - what hurt "lost" is those guys didn't keep any coherent idea going....it was just a mishmash that seemed like they were making it up as they went along......i won't go on about that show as it's off topic. suffice to say, i do NOT think much of DL and hold my breath ANY time he's involved with a project. i still think of how good those last 4 years of lost could have been if abrahams would have focused on it.

Anonymous on Dec 23, 2011

38

I agree with you 100% on Lost. You just finished my thought off for me. When they "explained" the mysteries of the island, it was like they just made crap up as they went on. It not only hurt the quality of the show, but also took away from the mystery. I just hope they don't repeat that here. I learned from the Star Wars prequels some things are best just left to the imagination.

46

It's a reference to the title appearing in Alien. It happened exactly the same way. I think it's pretty friggin' awesome!

Eleuvennink on Dec 22, 2011

47

This is DEFINITELY tied in to the Alien universe. You even see the Space Jocky coming out the floor in one shot. And remember how destroyed the ship was in Alien? It's exactly the same ship here, only before it's destroyed. Even the title appearing piece by piece is a reference to Alien's title! There's no doubt about it, this is definitely a prequel. I think it's fucking awesome! CAN. NOT. WAIT!

Eleuvennink on Dec 22, 2011

48

Look at the terrain.... I think this is a different world.  My speculation based on the teaser is that they find a 'space jockey' ship (on a different world) - awake the pilot (or activate an auto pilot), who panics and takes off, but the ship suffers an explosion and crashes.

In Alien, there is a storm as they land, so never really see much of the planet or the alien craft, at least not as clear as we do here. But then there's the picture of all the coffins(not eggs) they find. This was in the original script of Alien, but discarded. And now this scene pops up here. Maybe it's the same ship, maybe a million of those ships were sent out, we'll know next June 🙂

Wowowowow! Pay attention, class - THIS is how you do a teaser. This teaser shames the Hobbit and TDKR teasers.

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

TDKR trailer was disappointing sure, but I thought the Hobbit trailer was great. Of course I'm referring to the recent trailers... not the original TDKR teaser (which I can't remember) and I dont' think there was a Hobbit teaser.

Xerxexx on Dec 22, 2011

60

I don't get some of the negativity. This trailer was far and above the best of the geek trailers this week. I think Hobbit and DKR will turn out way better than Prometheus, but in terms of trailers go, this was the winner.

Al on Dec 22, 2011

61

No negativity here, I just can't get into trailers without even a hint of narrative to it, which both TDKR and Hobbit had. Although this had much more of an impact (lessened by the now-stupid countdown teasers) that the other two.

Anonymous on Dec 22, 2011

62

Hmmm....good point you raise, but go and check out the trailer for ALIEN--not much in the way of a narrative (at least, from my point of view), but certainly filled with images that made an impact. But I guess the only thing that will matter is whether or not the finished film will be any good.  We'll find out in June of 2012.

If you look at the original Alien trailer you'll notice that the high pitched sound repeated in this Prometheus trailer are exactly the same sound. If that doesn't tie in Aliens to Prometheus I don't know what will. Awesome!

There is a definite tie-in to the ALIEN universe.  Just how much....we'll see come next June.

This is the best trailer for films coming out next year, very cinematic in Sci-Fi terms, loved how they kept the style of the first Alien film trailer in 79, thats what I was hoping for, looks like its gonna be intense and scary, almost like Alien, Aliens and Carpenter The Thing all rolled into one, Repace looks like shes gonna go through a lot in this one, I am looking forward to this one more than the Dark Knight Rises mainley because I am a Ridley Scott fan and this is his re-entre into the Sci-Fi genre, next he has Brave New World and the sequel to Blade Runner. if any stupid mugs out there doesnt think Scott isnt a true artist, I suggest seeing The Duellists, Alien, Blade Runner the final cut, Thelma & Louise, 1492, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven the directors cut, A Good Year, American Gangster, and the directors cut of Robin Hood, then say some shit. I have all trust in Scott.

Why the hell do people, when running from something that is about to crush the from behind always just keep running forward? This movie really doesn't look that good and I'm a huge fan of the others. It looks too clean, the actors are all perfect hair and shiny suits. It should have been mostly about the Space Jockeys, not this tripe!
