The Casting Tidbits: John Hawkes, Christina Hendricks & Will Forte
by Ethan Anderton
March 16, 2011
Well, I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no-holds-barred, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride. But there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and Casting Tidbits and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork. First up, Variety reports John Hawkes (Winter's Bone) will star in the indie drama Surrogate. Based on the life of poet and journalist Mark O'Brien, the story follows the man as he decides to explore his sexuality after spending most of his life with an iron lung after struggling with polio. He hires a sex surrogate and soon develops a relationship that changes both of their lives. Yep, sounds like your standard indie drama to me.
Next, Deadline reports Christina Hendricks, the voluptuous star of "Mad Men" has signed on to star in Seconds of Pleasure. The actress joins Brendan Fraser, Julia Stiles, Matt Dillon and Kristen Scott Thomas in a story that takes place on an airplane and connects the lives of people on the plane through vignettes. Are we sure this isn't a film adaptation of "Lost"? Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) is directing from a script by screenwriter and playwright Neil LaBute.
Finally, Deadline reports "Saturday Night Live" alum Will Forte has landed a role in an indie called Run and Jump. No plot details have been revealed but I would like to see Forte venture out of comedy and try something dramatic, just to see if he's got some tricks up his sleeve. The project comes from Samson Films who famously made Once into an indie hit, and the script, written by Ailbhe Keogan and Steph Green (who's also directing), was developed by the Irish Film Board and the Sundance Screnwriters Lab. So yeah, this is a true indie film down to the bone.
That's all for this edition of Casting Tidbits! Be sure to stay tuned for more casting updates on the way!
