'The Dark Knight Rises' Begins Production and Will Have More IMAX

The Dark Knight Rises

Over the last few months we've heard about the spectacular cast coming together for The Dark Knight Rises including returning cast members like Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and even Nestor Carbonell. In addition, new cast members like Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have all joined the anticipated sequel, though we're not quite sure how they're characters fit into the story which is being kept under wraps. Well, we may know more soon enough as Warner Bros. has announced the start of principal photography on Christopher Nolan's last Batman film.

But the real news coming from the studio's press release is confirmation that Nolan will again be shooting certain sequences in IMAX. As a matter of fact, apparently Nolan will be shooting even more footage in IMAX than he did for The Dark Knight. The sequences from Nolan's last Batman sequel that had the IMAX touch looked truly spectacular on that giant screen, and I can't wait to see what he does this time around. And we know it will look spectacular again because Nolan is re-teaming with cinematographer Wally Pfister, fresh off his Academy Award win for his work on Inception, to shoot The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully more details on the sequel will be available soon, so stay tuned. Excited?

The cast still seems like it’s incomplete and smaller compared to the first two films. It feels like it's missing more recognisables actors and key characters.

I'm thinking the same thing. I feel like Nolan is keeping a key character out.

I agree....I think Nolan still has a few cards up his sleeve about the casting which he won't reveal for a while. The set is said to be very closed tightly so who the hell knows whats going on.

@ Lennox: Dude if there's only one thing I can say, it is that Nolan always does the unexpected and almost always surprises the audience when it's all said and done. Case in point: TDK: Heath Ledger was a very unfavorable choice for most I think when it was first announced. No one knew what the hell Nolan was thinking for such an iconic character. All the disbelievers were silenced. Inception: put together a strong, yet unusual cast of actors (Ellen Page, JGL, Tom Hardy.. really?) with a relatively unknown story. Suffice it say, his choices were outstanding. It's easy to doubt the man in the beginning but I think he always has something up his sleeve. From reading previous screenplays and knowing that this was a trilogy from the start, the script is likely to be crafted in such a way that the characters will bring out the performances from the actors (it's usually the other way around). My point, have faith my man!

I hope the climactic fight between Christian Bale and Tom Hardy will knock everyone on their ass and be so amazing and action-packed, audiences all over the world will be left breathless.

I would, like, die to be in The Dark Knight Rises. Being around all those hot guys. That would be my biggest dream in life! I want to be a villainess! I would be one that was probably nice – no, I kind of want to be evil! I don’t know what I’d want to be – just a villainess. I didn’t read the comic books, but my little brothers are obsessed with Batman.

well they have been filming in Soho and central London for the last few days, I'm sure you can sneak onto set there.

Wohoo!! Let me tell you, this will be an Anne Hathaway you’ve never seen, and she’s going to knock everyone’s socks off in The Dark Knight Rises! You are going to be so killed by her performance. I can’t tell you how good she is going to be as a strong, empowered, sexy Catwoman. Oh, she is going to be so good in this. It’s unbelievable the performance she is going to give. It’s amazing. Hahah.. freakin’ fantastic, can’t wait! Man! I feel like a woman!

Shoot in IMAX. SHow it in Imax. But on the Blu-Ray - don't play around with the aspect ratios!

Ryderup on May 19, 2011

I'd rather have the shifting ratios to better show off the IMAX footage. The shifting didn't bother me at all.

Chazzy on May 19, 2011

I would rather every Blu ray be displayed fully in 16:9 aspect ratio, or at least give you the option.  With such an awesome 1080 picture, I want the tv's whole screen filled, even at the cost of losing a little teensy bit of the original frame.  I hate black bars.  If this never happens, I guess I'll just have to get a projector or something.

AMEN!  The switching aspect ratios are crazy on CIH theaters.

I work in London and in the past two days have seen Christopher Nolan, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon Levitt. You cant see anything really on set but the hype around it is unreal!

They have been doing the filming across the road from my workplace for the last week.  Didn't see any actors, but I did see Christopher Nolan and a Gotham City Police Car, the set was quite locked down.  Looks like they wrapped up the filming there today.

can't wait imax dark knight was one of my definitive film watching experiences

Matthew Sam Russell on May 19, 2011

I'm really excited, I just hope that when these aspect ratio changing movies come to blu-ray they offer some method of turning off the switching.  It wrecks havoc for those of us with CIH home theaters.  So far Dark Knight and Tron are both doing it, and it really ruins the experience when you can't use your full cinemascope screen.

Everman on May 20, 2011

I cannot wait for this film. Nolan is the best filmmaker around. Only one year and two months to go before release. Let the countdown begin.
