Disney has already saddled up their titular hero with Armie Hammer playing The Lone Ranger, and Johnny Depp playing his trusty sidekick Tonto, and now another cast member has just surfaced for Gore Verbinski's new take on the classic cowboy hero. Variety reports Tom Wilkinson (The Green Hornet) has landed a prominent role in the film. The actor will play a railroad tycoon in the Old West who somehow gets caught up with our two heroes. We're not exactly sure about the story for this western yet, but production is expected to being this fall with a release planned for December 21st, 2012. Read on!
The Lone Ranger's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto (Depp), who nurses him back to health. The Ranger (Hammer), donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice. Of course, we're not sure how much of that will end up on this big screen version, so stay tuned.
