Between her sexy action-packed turn in Sucker Punch and her forthcoming role full of teen angst in Gimme Shelter, actress Vanessa Hudgens is on the fast-track to shed the High School Musical image that launched her careers years back. Now Deadline has word on yet another project continuing that trend as the young actress will join Nicolas Cage and John Cusack in a new dark thriller called Frozen Ground. The film actually seems like an interesting departure for Cusack too who will play Robert Hansen, a respected community man who actually turned out to be Alaska’s most notorious serial predator. More below!
Over 12 years, Hansen abducted more than 24 women, flew them into the Alaskan wilderness and proceeded to hunt and murder them. Hudgens will play one of his teenage victims who escaped, but upon returning home to tell her story, no one seems to believe her. However, the Alaskan State Trooper (Cage) who finds her on the street may turn out to be the man who can help her find Hansen and bring him to justice. Newcomer Scott Walker wrote the script and will make his feature directorial debut with the film that is supposed to begin shooting next month on location in Alaska.
