If you found yourself as moved as I was by the documentary Young @ Heart, then this new drama out of the United Kingdom will definitely get your attention. The Daily Mail reports that veteran talents Vanessa Redgrave and Terrence Stamp are set to lead Song for Marion, which follows a progressive choir composed of elderly men and women singing contemporary pop and rock songs. In the film Redgrave plays the titular character while Stamp plays her husband Arthur who is reluctant to join the choir with Marion. But of course she and the choir leader, to be played by Gemma Arterton, want him there.
In addition, Christopher Eccleston and Anne Reid also star in the film that will feature songs from Motorhead, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Cyndi Lauper. Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton) will direct the film which starts shooting later this month. And just so everyone's on the same page, both Redgrave and Stamp have the pipes to pull of the singing. Producer Ken Marshall says, "Both Vanessa and Terence can sing, and each has a big solo spot number." In addition, apparently Redgrave sings one classic ballad "that will have you crying into your shirt." Considering Young @ Heart brought some tears to my eyes, then I'm sure these talented actors can pull at my heartstrings too.
