Video Blog: Marvel's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' Kicks Ass

Captain America: The First Avenger

When it comes to superhero movies, Marvel Studios has been getting better and better ever since bringing us Iron Man in 2008. I've had the opportunity to see their latest cinematic origin story, Captain America: The First Avenger, the last solo movie before The Avengers, and it may be their best yet. I truly mean it, I loved it. It's an awesome movie, with great writing, great performances, a damn good story, and none of the setbacks that other Marvel films have. I had such a blast watching it (in 3D) and can't wait to watch it again. After the screening, Peter from SlashFilm and I recorded a quick video blog on our reactions to the movie.

Watch Peter and Alex's video blog reaction on Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger directly below.

I'm a big fan of most WWII-set movies and I expected to enjoy Captain America, but it still passed my high expectations, it really kicked ass and there's so many awesome scenes I wish I could watch over and over, especially the action moments. Chris Evans is a perfect Cap/Steve Rogers and brings the character to life so well, the action is never overdone, the script is just fantastic, it moves along at a swift pace and leaves you wanting more (in a good way). Honestly, I think it's director Joe Johnston who deserves a lot of the credit for making this on a Marvel Studios budget yet delivering a movie that I would even say is more entertaining than Thor and Iron Man. Can't wait to see it again (but not in 3D), just one time was definitely not enough.

I got my tickets for Thursday in San Diego. I CAN't WAIT! I literally won't be able to sleep tonight. Damn I haven't been this excited about a movie since... Since...

I cant wait to see it, but ROT is already looking ugly.. Admittedly very early, but not a good start.

Tester...forget RT's views (if that's what you're referring to).  Think about it--if RT was around years ago, they would've blasted BLADE RUNNER, THE THING, FRIGHT NIGHT....just saying. Trust your own subjective judgements--don't leave it up to people who look down on any film that is based on a comic book.

If the movie was free then yes I can agree, but when I have to shell out $9-15 to go see a movie, I would much rather read the reviews prior.. Thats what reviews are for, not just for movies, but for any product..  Ultimately I do agree that it will be up to me to decide

I'm still worried about the RT score. I probably shouldn't look at it any more. I know I'll enjoy they movie if Alex did, that's all that matters. Don't know if it will do that well from a RT critic score, but I think it's because it's Captain America, and it would seem like a lot of critics are stuck up elitist's that have a problem with anything resembling patriotism, even though this is just a comic book movie.

TG, the best thing to say is this: screw RT, and just go and see it for yourself.  Face it, if RT existed back in 1982, they would have pissed all over BLADE RUNNER, THE THING, pointed out that most critics are stuck-up elitists, and there is some truth to that.  They certainly look down on any film nowadays that is based on a comic book or graphic novel. Go and see CAP and judge for yourself.  That's what I'm doing.  I am long past relying on folks suffering from NIA/HUA syndrome to determine what I should/should not see.
