Vin Diesel Will Become 'The Machine' for New Family Action Comedy

Though he's more well known for his work in The Fast and Furious franchise, let's not forget (not matter how much we might like to) that Vin Diesel also dabbled in family comedy with The Pacifier. Now it sounds like he will be returning to that arena as The Wrap reports that Diesel is set to produce and star in The Machine. The story has Diesel as a human-like machine that the Pentagon created as the ultimate weapon. But 20 years later, after the project has been shut down, a young boy discovers and befriends this machine. When the government learns of the machine's return, you know what will happen next.
Of course, the machine is forced to protect the boy and his family when the government comes knocking. It's essentially Terminator meets E.T., and the only real saving grace of this project might be the fact that screenwriters Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant, former comedians of "The State" and the team behind the Night at the Museum series are scripting and producing the film as well.
This will be MGM's first new production after being resurrected recently, so hopefully it delivers the same heart and quality as Diesel's turn in The Iron Giant. However, I think it's interesting to note that Diesel has taken the same tangent in his career that Hulk Hogan once occupied. Hulk Hogan did Mr. Nanny and Diesel did The Pacifier. As for The Machine, it's akin to Hogan's turn in Suburban Commando. And no, this is not meant to be a flattering comparison. Anyone interested in The Machine?

So "Fast & Furious" anthologies and family "super-hero" movies are all Vin does now? Diesel was great in "Pitch Black", solid in "Knockaround Guys" (even if the movie wasn't), and his role in "Saving Private Ryan" was excellent (for those that may have forgotten he was in it). Diesel can, and has, played much better roles. I'm not sure why he continues to settle for things like this and the "Pacifier".
