The Guard Trailer

"There are men behind the men…" It never gets old seeing another Irish mob/cop drama with Brendan Gleeson starring in it. Yep, here's another one called The Guard about a "Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes" who gets teamed up with a stern FBI agent. The rest of the cast is stellar: Don Cheadle, Liam Cunningham, Mark Strong, Rory Keenan, Sarah Greene. The trailer comes from RTE (via The Playlist), which is the only place we can find an embed for now, but looks great and I suggest watching. This premiered at Sundance to some acclaim. Enjoy!

Watch the first trailer for John Michael McDonagh's The Guard via RTÉ Ten:

Unorthodox small-town Irish cop Sergeant Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) with a confrontational personality is teamed up with an uptight FBI agent (Don Cheadle) to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

The Guard is both written and directed by British filmmaker John Michael McDonagh, brother of Martin McDonagh, making his feature directorial debuted after a short titled The Second Death. This premiered as one of the opening films at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Sony Pictures Classics picked it up for release and will be bringing The Guard to limited theaters starting July 29th this summer. Look good?

Brendan Gleeson is a favorite of mine. His roles from Braveheart, to 28 Days Later, to In Bruges have been great. With Mark Strong and Don Cheadle in tow this film looks terrific.
