Winklevoss Twins of The Social Network

If you didn't already know, the Winklevoss Twins in David Fincher's The Social Network were played by two actors - Armie Hammer and Josh Pence. But it was only Armie who got his face in the movie, as Fincher used CGI like in Benjamin Button to put Hammer's face on both performances. Though the amazing DVD/Blu-Ray is already out and packed with special features and making of docs, Vulture posted a behind-the-scenes video (about 5 mins) that shows the work that Fincher, Pence and Hammer put into pulling off the Winklevii. It's great to see with only 13 days left until the Oscars. Looks like it was lots of tedious work!

Watch the behind-the-scenes featurette on the Winklevoss Twins from The Social Network:

The Social Network is directed by Oscar nominated director David Fincher, of many great films like Alien 3, Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button previously. The script was written by producer and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, of A Few Good Men, "The West Wing", and Charlie Wilson's War previously. It is based on Ben Mezrich's novel titled The Accidental Billionaires, about the founding of Facebook: "A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal." Sony Pictures released The Social Network in theaters on October 1st. It's available on DVD/Blu-Ray on January 11th. Should it win?

Why couldn't they have used that technology to put Jeff Bridges REAL mouth into that creepy computer face in TRON Legacy?

Possibly because they hadn't planned this earlier in production, and also the complexity of some shots. Think about it, Clu always has his neck down covered. This is harder to do.

Because it is made in a completely different way! CLU and old Brad Pitt could NOT be done using TSN's solution, because they do not exist (young Jeff and old Brad). They didn't fully render Hammer, they just filmed him with 4 HD RED cameras and that video was combined and used to create moving face texture which was then mapped on 3D model. The 3D model had to be precisely animated to match the moving texture. This is not really a CG face! More informations here: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/Twice_The_Social_Network/stro

ALL of this is on the DVD ... so its disingenuous to call this a "Vulture Exclusive." Shame on you.
