ParaNorman Teaser Trailer

After Laika and Focus Features brought us Coraline a couple years back, I was eagerly anticipated their next collaboration in the form of ParaNorman, another stop-motion animated feature with the voice talent of Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) as our new main character Norman. Now we have the first trailer for the film about a boy who can speak to the dead and must save his town from a zombie uprising, and damn does it look exquisite. With meticulously crafted characters and set pieces, this looks to be just as marvelous and charmingly twisted as Henry Selick's adaptation of Coraline, with its own cute quirks. See the trailer below!

Watch the first teaser trailer for Focus Features & Laika's ParaNorman, in high def via Yahoo:

Norman, a boy who's able to speak with the dead, has to take on zombies, ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his small town from a centuries-old curse. The voice cast: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tucker Albrizzi, Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin and John Goodman.

ParaNorman is being directed by Sam Fell (director on The Tale of Despereaux and Flushed Away) & Chris Butler (storyboard on Coraline and Corpse Bride). The original screenplay is by Chris Butler. Stop-motion animation studio Laika is producing out of Portland, OR, with Focus Features distributing. ParaNorman is currently set to land in theaters in 3D starting August 17th, 2012 late next summer. Look good so far?

I'm still at a lost as to why they chose that song. It did not fit it at all. o_O

Jrp7sen on Oct 28, 2011

Guessing he has to battle a witch possibly? They should have used the Polyphonic Spree or Sigur Ros just to shake things up a littlee.....,e.

this looks really bad. the animation looks like something a grade school kid would do and the whole set and setting of the movie looks bad.  I dont think this will do well and im sure that most people wont watch it.  I dont think anyone will rent it because it just does not look good.  The story looks really bad and the characters look bad also.

James on Oct 28, 2011

let me know when a grade-school kid comes up with something like that. and it's a SURE rent for me right now......maybe even a theatre watch - have to see the full trailer without that HORRIBLE song.

A lot of "I dont think" and "Looks" in your opinion James that has the irony of looking like a grade school day trip report.

Pilgrim_UK on Oct 28, 2011

i agree, pilgrim - but, i'm afraid james won't see your response to him unless you reply to HIS post. you responded to mine by mistake - easy to do.

I see it, and I have further reviewed the footage.  I went to an elementary school today also to pick up a child and the kids drawings on the walls reminded me of this animation.  Honestly it looks bad.  It just does not look good.  Im sure you notice what im seeing you just dont want to say anything because you think it looks ok.  but it doesnt I mean it looks bad and people wont pay to see this if thats what you are thinking.

James on Oct 28, 2011

wait.... im completely baffled... so if you want to target a young audience a childish art style shouldn't be used?  your brains all scramby eggs

Are you kidding, James? I'd like to see you do stop motion that well done. It's perfect.

Davidarthurwall on Oct 28, 2011

The animation looks fun, but I wouldn't call that a trailer. It was a series of random clips set to music. It gives absolutely zero sense of story (or any reason to go see the film). Marketing FAIL.

i like what i SAW - but that song was absolutely dreadful.

Anonymous on Oct 28, 2011

i honestly thought the song was good. Donovan's the best and it gave it an interesting feel. Oh, and a series of random clips set to music is normally the standard for a teaser trailer. We're being teased. Obviously they don't want us to know what the story is yet. Just wowing us with visuals is enough for now.

great song choice and animation

Stop motion is getting really beautiful, slick and smooth. Looked awesome, quirky. Zero story but at least it wasn't ruining the story like 80% of other trailers. I liked the song choice it was as quirky as the trailer, i admit i wasn't listening to the lyrics though. I was too caught up in the visuals
