Conan the Barbarian

"I live, I love, I slay… and I am content!" Lionsgate debuted the first teaser trailer via Yahoo for Conan the Barbarian coming in 3D starring Jason Momoa as Conan this time, replacing Schwarzenegger from the 1982 movie. It's a true teaser in the sense that there's no footage from the movie, unless all that smoke is going to be in it, too. But that said, it's a pretty cool way of reminding audiences that Conan is coming back to the big screen later this year. I'm not particularly excited for this yet, despite featuring some pretty damn cool set photos, but they've still got plenty of time to impress me before August. Check out the teaser below!

Watch the first teaser trailer for Marcus Nispel's Conan the Barbarian 3D from YouTube:

In addition to Momoa, Conan stars Ron Perlman as Corin, Stephen Lang as Khalar Zym, Rachel Nichols as Tamara, Rose McGowan as Marique (no longer Red Sonja!) and Saïd Taghmaoui. This is being directed by Marcus Nispel of the Friday the 13th remake, that atrocity Pathfinder, the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and a bunch of music videos. This is a Nu Image/Millennium Films production co-produced by Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta and is based on the classic Robert E. Howard characters which first debuted in 1932 in Weird Tales. Lionsgate is bringing Conan the Barbarian to theaters in 3D on August 19th in the summer.

That was terrible.

tpainmoneyface on Mar 12, 2011

...and the set photos are pure trash too.

Marcus on Mar 12, 2011

got that right!

Beitz71 on Mar 13, 2011

About as terrible as those old Dragonball Evolution trailers...

Cruzer on Mar 12, 2011

agreed....will wait til it comes out on blu ray and then see it when i get round to it. That dude jus looks like a poor mans arnold

J.Dahmedy on Mar 12, 2011

I enjoyed his acting on Stargate: Atlantis. He can do the whole "I'm an angry savage with a heart sometimes" thing pretty well.

Hamster on Mar 14, 2011

Conan is black?

Jeewillikers on Mar 12, 2011

Super black.

Shawn Guse on Mar 12, 2011

Momoa is Hawaiian not black.

Hamster on Mar 14, 2011

This guy isn't black.

Anonymous on Mar 14, 2011

Really it's very terrible.

Playing Cards on Mar 12, 2011

Conan isn't a white guy, the Arnold movie wasn't accurate to the source material!

John on Mar 12, 2011

yes, he was. He was bronzed by the sun.

Vold on Mar 12, 2011

Trust me, Momoa is plenty dark. Hawaiians have that natural tanned thing going for 'em.

Hamster on Mar 14, 2011

Marcus on Mar 12, 2011

That looked like shit on celluloid.

ate on Mar 12, 2011

Jeewillikers, It's quite clear to the eyes that he is not black. If you weren't such a trailer trash racist than you could tell the obvious difference. That is just like saying a an Indian is Japanesse. You show that there are still lots of bafoon American's who are still stuck in the 50's without mental-evolution. He is from Hawaii and was on Baywatch Hawaii. The dudes also half German. Man are there still idiot/racists out there in 2011. I'd be open for a black Conan if they brought in some unknown with the persona of Will Smith.

Swordofday on Mar 12, 2011

I don't know if I could wrap my head around a Conan that says "Aww, hell no!" xD

Anonymous on Mar 12, 2011

i am black, thank you very much, and i was asking a question cause im interested. I love how you jump to conclusion. I love how you assume my three word question reverts back to racism. Maybe you should go smoke a joint and relax.

JeeAreYouMad? on Mar 12, 2011

Swordofday fail!

Gill on Mar 12, 2011

Bahaha Swordofday comment fail!

McWilly on Mar 15, 2011

your an idiot....its far more stereotypical then racist, you actually sound more racist then that other dude..and wtf? will smith?? watch some "king of thrones"....

it makes my eyeballs feel icky all over =S

I liked the "Rubber" advertisement at the end more than the actual trailer

BaSs1L on Mar 12, 2011

total shit

Liam Waite on Mar 12, 2011

The beginning with the smoke reminded me of the oracle scene in 300, which was actually the best thing about this teaser. Momoa has a weird effing face, I don't like to look at him. >.< Then again, Arnold wasn't exactly sexy, either, I guess... "I live, I love, I slay, I'm content." Oh well, at least the dialog is on par with the cornyness of the original. 😉

Anonymous on Mar 12, 2011

LOL. Wow. Talk about terrible. The original was great. The Lame dialogue worked for when it came out. That's what made it great. The shit one-liners. This movie just looks like it's trying too hard and it will suck. Guranteed.

AK on Mar 12, 2011

*cough* Guys, it's a teaser, not a trailer. Just to keep the movie ligering in the back of your minds 🙂

David Banner on Mar 12, 2011

Mel Gibson would have been the best choice to direct this one. I will wait for a trailer before I make any snap judgement about this movie

Loser on Mar 12, 2011

wow...where the hell did this guy learn to act?? he sounds like he's reading off a damn cue-card or somethin :l

Anonymous on Mar 12, 2011

He is a barbarian you idiot, he is suppose to sound like that!

Brapamival on Mar 12, 2011

wow someone got butt-hurt. Barbarian or not, Momoa just sounds like he cant deliver.

Anonymous on Mar 12, 2011

Conan the Transgender Barbarian seriously whats up with the eyeliner?

El Hoopso on Mar 12, 2011

lol yea no kidding. wtf

Shawn Guse on Mar 12, 2011

Barbarian fury?

Anonymous on Mar 14, 2011

i was thinkin motorstorm cos of the voice over guy haha

booyah on Mar 12, 2011

i think i am the only one who thought this was a good teaser and i would now like to see a trailer

dave on Mar 12, 2011

I'm just surprised people expected anything remotely good considering the source material. It's like remaking Baby Geniuses. Did you actually think this was going to be any good to begin with? C'mon folks.

Swipethemagnets on Mar 12, 2011

This is just your everyday "MAN" movie. Its not ment to stimulate the mind, but rather excite the animal side inside us. This movie will be good for that. Blood, gore, tits, ass, and action. If you go expecting that you wont be dissapointed!

Brapamival on Mar 12, 2011

If you read Conan, you would know that it was more than Blood, gore, tits, ass, and action, Conan was actually educated and eventually became a king, the stories have more depth than that. The stories dealt more with adventure than anything, exploring the world was the overall the theme that carried the stories. Unfortunately most people miss that about the series and only focus on the things that sale, as usual.

Todayiamsorry on Mar 14, 2011

Yes, Robert E. Howard's Conan was more interesting than any movie or TV show adaptation. The only one that really came close was the Marvel comic Conan. Roy Thomas did a great job, but there's nothing like the exhilaration of reading the original stories!

JBarnes on Mar 26, 2011

As a huge fan of the original, it is not my place to even BEGIN speculation for such a teasy teaser trailer. Theatrical trailer and then I'll start bashing/gushing. But to be honest, it's starting to look like what I thought a Conan remake would look like.

Cracky on Mar 12, 2011

the only plus i can see from this shit is that ahnold's version is coming out on blu-ray soon?

Xtheory on Mar 12, 2011

I live, I love, I slay and I am content? Sounds like a poet with a chip on his shoulder...Whatever happened to "have no limitations of women" or I'll bash your brain in just for looking at me the wrong way. Those words sound more barbaric. I think its going to be another scorpion king style type of movie. The trailer isn't that bad and all it is, is just a teaser can't really read into the plot just into the persona of the conan character which seems a bit bland.

BinaryChaos on Mar 12, 2011

"Why don't we cut you up into little pieces and feed you to your pooches?"

Marcus on Mar 12, 2011

Gigerbrick on Mar 12, 2011

I thought this wasnt a remake. In fact I thought it was supposed to be called "Conan the Cimmerian", being a younger Conan and all. Some of you guys are taking it to the heart though. I mean, have you forgotten Conan the Destroyer? It was a pile of shit. Yet, it was fucking great. Give it a chance.

PLeon on Mar 12, 2011

I actually heard the entire movie is told through whisps of smoke, as it is in the trailer.

Pendy16 on Mar 12, 2011

Wow, that was amazingly fucking awful.

Anonymous on Mar 12, 2011

I love how they have cast a transvestite as the lead!!!

Dcsharp on Mar 12, 2011

Can anyone guess wut the next "barbarian" type movie is next . . ill give u a hint . . hes a prince . . ill let u think about it . . anybody? . . *cough*HE-MAN*cough*

James Rodriguez on Mar 12, 2011

What the hell was that shit?

Something that smells shitty probably means it's going to be shit.. and not filet mignon

Boon on Mar 13, 2011

I don't know. I loved the original Barbarian and the Destroyer. I'll wait for the OFFICIAL trailer. This didn't look THAT bad. All Conan does is f**k people up in some adventure he gets in! Shouldn't be too hard to make a movie like that, right?

Judasbarronx1 on Mar 13, 2011

This is one helluva "HATE" fest on this thread!!!!!

Blue Silver on Mar 13, 2011

THX For deleting my coment for bout he 4th time.. sorry this site i liked but u deleted my comment an i never even droped a 4 letter word. i'm sorry but i'm not wasting my time here now, i'm gonna move to another site that doesn't have one hand tied around their balls >:)

Galactus on Mar 13, 2011

One day, the Conan books will get the movie/s they deserve. This doesn't look like it'll be the one.

crom! on Mar 13, 2011

Just terrible.

Mrjzn on Mar 13, 2011

I'll wait for the final trailer on my final opinion, but I have to agree that was one weak ass teaser trailer. The best part of it was the sword work, that was badass!

Brandon on Mar 13, 2011

Gex on Mar 14, 2011

I watched it again because I thought "No way it was as bad as I initially thought". Watching it gave me the same reaction I'd have if someone shoved a turd up my nose.

Mrjzn on Mar 14, 2011

I knew this was going to be a let down, specially when they mentioned they announced the director. I agree with @todayiamsorry "If you read Conan, you would know that it was more than Blood, gore, tits, ass, and action, Conan was actually educated and eventually became a king, the stories have more depth than that. The stories dealt more with adventure than anything, exploring the world was the overall the theme that carried the stories. Unfortunately most people miss that about the series and only focus on the things that sale, as usual."

Frysucks on Mar 14, 2011

This is going to be based more on CGI mumbo jumbo rather than storyline. I'm not even going to bother watching this.

Ezza72 on Mar 14, 2011

I'm all about not giving the movie away in the trailer, but seriously. Show something we can actually SEE!!!

Jasonmd2020 on Mar 14, 2011

Spike The Poet on Mar 14, 2011

i think youll find conan was irish mate, not black or hawaian the paddys preyed to crom at some point before the potato and were as hard as coffin nails, should of had a white guy tho, it be like doing shaft with tom cruise its not quite right, like cruise.

Humewilliam on Mar 14, 2011

Kinda wondered they didnt put Dwayne Johnson as Conan

Anonymous on Mar 14, 2011

I can't wait to not watch this movie...

chris on Mar 15, 2011

Jason Momoa is more true to Robert E. Howard's description of Conan. Don't get me wrong, I loved Arnold in the first Conan movies, but I'm really excited to see Momoa in the role.

James Brogan on Mar 15, 2011

wow that sucked

Stinkyballz on Mar 16, 2011

That shoulda been Jared Padalecki................Glad he didn't get the role tho, Conan blows, they should have just left the originals with Arnold as is.

Rooneyman on Mar 17, 2011

WOW! That was so shitty I could actually smell it! How hard is it to read Robert E. Howard's Conan and convert it to film? There's a huge amount of source material and they'll still balls it up. This would be an embarrassment to the SyFy channel. NOCAN do the Barbarian.

Macekertim on Mar 21, 2011

Apparently, Robert E. Howard is like Rocket Science to Hollywood. Almost anything Howard wrote could be made into an awesome film. Heck, even one of de Camp's pastiches would be better than this tepid plot. And, for Pete's sake, WHY IN 3D? 🙁

Lurker on Apr 27, 2011

This is simply the latest attempt by the politically correct Hollywood pukes to purposely ruin any macho white male icons. It's amazing that most people don't notice it. Just watch a string of commercials on any cable channel and take note of who is portrayed as the 'idiot' almost every time. They are already ruining Thor's legacy and next it will be the upcoming John Carter of Mars movie. Do the math. Liberal propaganda has ruined the American movie industry.

Jondoe on Mar 26, 2011

You are funny.

bigwoopi on May 3, 2011

the best thing this movie has going for it thus far is the smoke!! "Right on!" to the epic trash!

Dragoonpowerr on May 17, 2011

wtf shit ! total fail!
