Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey

With this wonderful doc finally slated for a rolling theatrical release starting in October and moving through December, we finally have the trailer for Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey, a charming documentary which brought warmth to many hearts in the winter cold of the Sundance Film Festival back in January. The chronicle of Kevin Clash, the puppeteer behind beloved "Sesame Street" character Elmo, went on to win a Special Jury Prize at Sundance, and both myself and our friends at The Film Stage (quoted in the trailer) absolutely loved every minute of this heart-warming story. It's a must watch! Watch the trailer below.

Here's the trailer for Constance Marks' Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey via IndieWire:

Directed by Constance Marks, narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, the documentary chronicles the life and career of Kevin Clash, a young child with dreams of becoming a puppeteer who would go on to bring life to Elmo, one of the most beloved "Sesame Street" characters of all-time. With focus on the art of puppetry, the inspiration of Jim Henson, interviews with iconic puppeteers and great archival footage, Being Elmo is an inspirational chronicle of Clash's triumphs and struggles to reach the success he enjoys today. Visit their official website for more and see the list of theaters and screening dates to see Being Elmo. Look good?

I for one can not wait for this. I anticipate it to make it into my top 10 of the year easily.

A touching commentary on both the power of showing a child love, and the love of something many don't understand. Just beautiful. Films like this aren't just documentaries--they are life lessons. They are slices of real we need to be in touch with. This film about pursuing what inspires you the most no matter what others think looks tremendous. Look where it got Kevin: He is the puppeteer of the most recognized creature on the planet. God bless him.

Looks great.  I hope they capture some of his other projects like Splinter from ninja turtles, the gorilla from the great Space Coaster, baby from Dinosaurs...  He's got a great body of work.  I can't wait to see his story even if its only about elmo.  🙂
