Watch: First Trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's 'The Three Musketeers'

All for one and one for all! Summit has debuted the first official trailer on Apple for Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers that was shot and is being released in 3D this fall. As we already know, our three four musketeers are: Matthew Macfadyen (Athos), Ray Stevenson (Porthos) and Luke Evans (Aramis) and Logan Lerman (D'Artagnan). This certainly doesn't look like what I expected, but at the same time, it looks quite stylized and action-packed. We all know what to expect from W.S. Anderson, which is not much, but this does look quite entertaining. I can't help but say I will probably see it. Check out the trailer below!

The Three Musketeers, which was actually shot entirely in 3D, is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (of Resident Evil, Death Race, Event Horizon) with a script adapted from Alexandre Dumas' novel by Andrew Davies and Alex Litvak (Predators). Summit Entertainment has this set for release on October 21st, later this year. In addition to the four Musketeers above, The Three Musketeers also stars Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Buckingham, Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu, Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort, Til Schweiger as Cagliostro, Juno Temple as Queen Anne and Milla Jovovich as M'lady De Winter. Anyone going to see this?

IN 3D (with cheesy CGI) =D

Agreed. Looks kinda meh. I prefer the 1993 version, or the man in the iron mask over some over-the-top, bullet-time laden, 3D gimmick flick.

I want more precisely choreographed sword fighting and less explosions. Anyone can make an explosion, so why should I be impressed?

lol. I hate when you can tell something sucks, but if you say so, there are always a bunch of over-zealous snobs cursing at you for forming an opinion before the movie is out. But it's nice when you have seen it, and you can still rebut their nerdgasms with hard evidence.

1973 version is the best, but I am presently surprised. Looks like a fun movies. Still waiting for a version with just epic sword work and great acting, even topping the 70's version.

I don't really see anything wrong with it. I think the 3D is unnecessary but in the end won't affect much. I'll definitely see it before I dismiss it.

You'll really spend money on that? Even though it's a Paul W.S. Anderson film? You do know that automatically means it will suck, right? The guy sucks. It's fact. Look it up.

Are you kidding? Mortal Kombat sucked. Last time I saw that on tv, I couldn't help but laugh. It was stupid as hell.

Event Horizon did not suck but 1 good movie out of 10 might not be a good indicator for this one.

now this, will suck. "shot in 3D"...matrix crap...whatever. i had hopes, and now they're shattered. what the fuck. i don't like to start my day pissed but this trailer did the job fine. Not all w.s. anderson movies suck, how can you screw the musketeers..I DON'T KNOW but this is how.

Looks fun at the most. I always enjoyed The Musketeers story no matter who's telling it. Just a band of slick cool dudes with swords and European whit. I'll check it out.... in 2D like the good Lord intended.

Alex, my man! I love your site, but the amount of time you spent posting this sh:t of a 'trailer' could of actually been spent vomiting blood in a bag and posting it to W.S. Anderson himself... Why, oh why did 'Hollywood' get their hands on 3D...

looks like Orlando Bloom's criteria to choose roles is to pick only characters with pointy goatees.

Lets take a perfectly good story, strip it of everything except the names and film it in 3D. Like it would kill a film crew (producer, writer, director) to actually hew closer to a story rather than their own "improvements".
Angrybell on Mar 25, 2011

Too many people bashing the movie already. I'll give it a chance and watch it for what it is. A Paul Anderson movie. I must admit that even though no one seems to like his movies that every now and then I don't mind watching the mindless action. I think I might actually enjoy this one.

why 3D, why?

actually you can thank Andrew Davies...This seems to be more of a collaboration between Andersen's production company and his talent at screenwriting..the guy's track record is mostly English period pieces..teaming up to do a French period piece that crosses over into Jules Vernish/Victorian era pulp ala Sherlock Holmes or League of xtraOrdinary Gentlemen..Also they kinda stole the WB's initial idea and ran with it before the WB could sign a director..It'll be interesting to say the least..hopefully this will be better than anything Andersen has put out lately,if not-it'll be his "Wild,Wild West" or "LOEG"....

Christoph Waltz, huh? Must be the old, "trick a fantastic actor fresh to Hollywood into your movie before he realizes you're horrible reputation as a director" move. Nice one, Paul. Nice one. I could just see Christoph with his accent, after watching a rough cut of the movie, "But I thought he directed There Will Be Blood?"

This is far from being based on the Dumas novel as Robert Downy Jr's film was based on the books by Arthur Conan Doyle. The characters have the same names and that's about it. Not that I'm saying that it couldn't a really fun action flick, but don't call it what it's not. I hate it when they play with the plot. Write your own damn story it your going to do that. You know, while we're at it, I think Jane Eyre should be a kung fu master and kick some crazy lady ass. I'd pay to see that. Or Elizabeth Bennet pulls out a shotgun and blows a hole in Billingsly for breaking her sister's heart! Now we're talking!

Why is Paul W.S Anderson still allowed to direct movies? Please explain this to me. Do studios just not care about a movie being good?

I would rather have my testicles spread out like a wafer and then have them covered in a layer of honey and then have wasps come and sting me and then have them covered in another layer of vinegar and then have it worn as a swimming cap by a Nazi. I'd rather have that than what this film.

this doesn't look too horrible. i'd rather they make it multiple movies and stick with the actual plot of the book, but i highly doubt hollywood will ever really do that.

Movie was shot in several towns where I'm living (somewhere in Germany). I'm curious how much you can see of that in the movie.

You guys are overreacting. seriously. It might be funny. Not all movies are made to be taken seriously, sometimes they are just for fun. And this one seems like that: fun and probably that's all. But I'll still keep my head open and hope to be surprised. Though I'm not watching it 3D. Not like I have that kind of money to spend on movies...
