Watch: First Trailer for 'Underworld: Awakening' with Kate Beckinsale

"I was held captive for 12 years." And she has broken out, just in time for a new movie! ScreenGems has unveiled the first trailer (via Yahoo) for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth movie in the vampires vs lycans franchise. Yes, it's in 3D, but most importantly, it features Kate Beckinsale back as Selene. The cast includes Michael Ealy, Stephen Rea, Sandrine Holt, India Eisley, but not many other big names. I personally hate this series, but at least Len Wiseman isn't directing this one, and has instead let Swedish filmmaking duo Mårlind & Stein handle that task. It's very blue, yet again, and extremely-stylish as always, so have fun!

Selene escapes imprisonment to find herself in a new world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.
Underworld: Awakening was co-directed by Swedish filmmakers Måns Mårlind & Björn Stein, of only the thriller Shelter previously, along with some television work. The screenplay includes credits for J. Michael Straczynski, John Hlavin and Allison Burnett, with credits also going to the original character creators: Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman and Danny McBride (not the actor). ScreenGems is bringing Underworld: Awakening, the fourth movie in the series, to theaters in 3D starting January 20th, 2012 early next year.

While no one except them knows whether or not they have been trying, it is strange that after seven years of marriage, Kate Beckinsale still hasn't had any children with Len Wiseman. He has selflessly helped raise her daughter for all this time and she seems solely focused on her career.

I personally don't care about there private life. If I did i'd be reading women gossip mags. This trailer really does nothing for me. I loved the other 3 films but there really isn't anything new here. And besides I thought Kate Beckinsales character became human again at the end of Evolution?

When will they stop with this franchise already it's getting tiring just like the Blade franchise... I don't think Kate can save this movie just by running around in her tight leather clothes.

Not sure why everyone gives this franchise so much crap...I actually like it! Its way better than cheesy luvvy dubby vamps and wolves in Twilight! At least these are done well with strength and action! I was hoping they'd have another prequel with Michael Sheen, but i'll take another sequel like this..as long as they bring back Michael's character..the hybrid. Sounds like they did but are hiding his role Cant wait for this!!!

Not fully blade-worthy in my mind, but definately cut from the same cloth. <-- Please understand I'm still mad at the matrix for ripping off the kung fu, techno, sunglasses, trench coats and bullet time from Blade.

So we are just ignoring reality and saying that Noir just doesn't exist ? or that they were filmed on two completely different countries at about the same time? There was what, maybe one scene of wire fighting in Blade (which btw had been used before in every other wire fighting kung fu movie ever). Even the phrase bullet time CAME from Matrix as they invented a new way to film for certain hard to shoot scenes; of which Blade had NO bullet time effects! Secondly, WHO LIKED YOUR COMMENT?! I love Blade movies, and obviously im a fan of Matrix, which used a great deal of "creative license" from other sources. HOWEVER: Blade is not one of those sources.

To each his own. I'm not ignoring Noir as a genre at all... Just not willing to dismiss that certain aspects of Blade that showed up in the Matrix are just a coincidence (highly stylized, Euro, techno, leather, dark shades, dark brooding setting, Kung Fu, machine guns, etc). Never once said that bullet time was coined by Blade or the way it was filmed was emulated by the matrix, it simply wasn't around in sci-fi movies before hand. Anyone who's a fan of the matrix knows the influences of anime & manga camera angles, hong kong cinema fights and even Alice & Wonderland, but when it comes to the look and the feel and combination of what Blade did right, i feel that the Matrix took note and expanded upon it. ...and I wonder how much Will Smith (first choice as Neo) would have looked like Blade with a leather trench, side arms and dark glasses? I respect your opinion, but get over yourself. Seriously 😉

This franchise works because it has a good premise: battle between vampires and werewolves. And that´s awesome. Now they add humans to the mix for what seems to be nothing more than a good action film. And that´s exactly what I expect from this franchise. Give me a sequel to Underworld anytime over a girlish-rom-com-action-drama-teen-age movie. Yes, I´m talking about Twilight 🙂

Finally! No more having to deal with crappy werewolves like in Twilight and True Blood. Lycans are back! I was getting worried their image was getting destroy by these "just morph in to wolves" adaptations. Definitely gonna watch this movie! Also, Kate Bekinsale in tight clothing and kicking some ass is another reason to watch this movie.

I guess Len Wiseman was too busy with Total Recall. Anyway, I don't know why people give him (and this franchise) so much hate. I like the first two movies, though I haven't seen the third yet. My dad, who doesn't even watch many movies, watched the first one (which was enough of a shocker to me) and after it was ever he immediately wanted to watch the second. Trust me if you knew my dad it would be a big deal. If that doesn't give the series cred I don't know what does. Can't wait for this one.

I kinda wanted them to go back and try to tell Selene's story more. I'll still go and see this movie though, can't be worse than twilight! and at least all underworld movies have actors who can actually act!

in my opinion in these film michael corvin is that beast and will dye ,selene will also dye like all the others . So it will be " a new world" with new caracters, selene's daughter will be the future. The ending from part 2 (evolution) was great they shouldn't make a part 4. Hope i am wrong but if they kill Michael and Selene none of the elders will be alive what's the point? it's means they are making a new part of underworld only for money, the story of these film doesn't matter for those who made it. i want to see the elders not another film and a new story it's called underworld them underworld i should see
