Hesher Trailer

We didn't expect to hear anything about this for a while, but it looks like this is hitting theaters in April, so here's a (likely unofficial) trailer from YouTube (via The Playlist) to introduce you to it. Hesher is the first feature from Spencer Susser, director of that zombie short I Love Sarah Jane, and it has an impressive cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, Rainn Wilson and Devin Brochu, also from I Love Sarah Jane. But… it's not that good. I saw it at Sundance and didn't care for it at all, in fact, it's a film that I suggest staying away from, despite how badass/crazy it may look here. Check it out, but that's my warning.

Watch the first (unofficial) trailer for Spencer Susser's Hesher:

Hesher is a loner. He hates the world and everyone in it. He has long hair and tattoos. He's malnourished and smokes lots of cigarettes. He likes fire and blowing things up. He lives in his van… until he meets TJ.

Hesher is written & directed by Australian up-and-coming filmmaker Spencer Susser, who made his feature debut with this film after the award-winning short I Love Sarah Jane and other music videos prior. Animal Kingdom writer/director David Michôd also worked on the script, from a story by Brian Charles Frank. This premiered at Sundance last year and was picked up by Wrekin Hill Entertainment for distribution. Hesher will finally be arriving in very limited theaters starting April 15th. Visit the film's official website for more.

in the words of Officer Slater: "This kids crazy!" I might check it out, trailer got me interested. Gordon-Levitt looks pretty badass, plus Portman is a nice touch, as is Rainn Wilson. What didn't you like about it, Alex?

There was just no substance to it... It was just the crazy ass pyro dude running around wreaking havoc, being an asshole to everyone, even Portman's life got screwed up and not much was made of it. Just a very big mess of a film.

hmm...well you're probably right, but I'll take my chances and let you know what I thought.

as you stated, this probably isn't the official trailer, but i'm with you on this one. i didn't really see any semblance of a plot, just a bunch of characters thrown together.. i'll still see it because i really like the cast, but it'll probably be a Netflix watch.

That's the problem sometimes with a well casted, indie drama: It tries far too hard to be something bigger than the simple story it was meant to be.

But Ghost World was brilliant. This doesn't look anything like "brilliant."

9

Stupid. Save for Mysterious Skin, JGL only makes pretentious movies.

Whoa pure hater there huh?

Yea I know, where did this come from? I mean, I know I didn't like this film either, but whoa? JGL is otherwise quite awesome!

Alex Billington on Feb 20, 2011

I've yet to see the movie, but I read the script and I have to agree with Alex; it was very unfocused. While it often has bad-ass moments, it's tendency to lean on these moments leave the movie without any actual story or progression.

EXACTLY!

I like the cast but there's nothing here that makes me wanna see more of this.

15

it didn't look all bad and the cast is a good enough reason to to view it.

I love Natalie Portman as much as the next guy but is there a film that she hasn't been in lately?

justin bieber never say never

18

No,no,no...51 minutes in the film, you gotta focus on the back row, she's there jumping and clamping (now i've noticed I don't even now if the Justin Bieber's movie is a concert or not, well, it was worth the try)

i wouldn't see this at a theatre; but, i'll surely rent it - seems worth a watch for RW and JGL.

The story has a lot of heart and Hesher helped this family heal.

I want to see this.

So I've never read the script, and I've only seen the trailers that came out of Comic Con and this one, but from what I understand, it's really about the kid growing up and standing up for himself. Now, I might be wrong, but just maybe the focus was on the big name list, that we forgot about that? Of course, like I said, I've yet to watch it, so I might be totally wrong.

Natalie Portman is very quickly becoming the Michael Caine of this decade. Only not British. and a hot chick. Did anyone notice JGL's look in this is remarkably similar to that of his recently deceased brother?

I just can't get enough of Natalie Portman!

I love Portman and JGL so this film is a must see for me.

26

Looks stupid. I'm sure Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do a hell of a lot better than that. Have any of you ever seen 'The Lookout', 'Brick', and 'Killshot'?

Dlm Movieposters - I don't think 'Hesher' looks anything like Burning dan aka Dan Gordon-Levitt. http://cdn.buzznet.com/media-cdn/jj1/headlines/2009/05/joseph-gordon-levitt-hesher-shirtless.jpg Hesher http://mymorningjoe.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/tumblr_l4wgtriA4Z1qzxghto1_500.jpg dan Hesher has long dark hair and dan had dreads. As brothers though, they have remarkably similar features. R.I.P dan

Really don't think joseph fits this part that the writer was originally imagining. His tone of voice is missing something for what the description of the character states. This is trying to be a clash between garden state and little miss sunshine. I wouldn't waste my time with it. Really don't need to see this, just based on poor casting and producers. Portman, seems like the only thing good it has got.

MArk.c on Feb 21, 2011

are you implying Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Paul Dano?

This movie looks really terrible.

Metallica's Shortest Straw (0:29) & Metallica font type for movie title (2:10)... the kind of movie that I want to watch 🙂

Jafaris Mustafa on Feb 21, 2011

32

It does look like an unfocused movie, I could totally understand how it could just feel like a bunch of random events tied together. Then again, I think I'll still check it out. Seems like the character exactly asks for that kind of movie, and they mght have recut it since sundance.

Your conclusion was spot on and thanks to you; I probably won’t have to describe everything to my pals. I can simply direct them here!
