Watch: Great Stop-Motion Animated 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Opening
Last month we featured the next big project from Jamie Benning, the man behind the extensive collection of fan-made Star Wars Trilogy documentaries, in the form of Raiding the Lost Ark, another in-depth look into the making of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the start of the Indiana Jones franchise. His love for the adventure series now brings us another treat as Benning (hat tip to Movies.com) has found a fantastic stop-motion animated recreation of the opening action sequence from the film featuring Harrison Ford and Alfred Molina, some terrifying tarantulas and of course, the infamous giant rolling boulder. Watch it!
Jeff Gurwood (through his YouTube account CovertOperatives) is behind the impressive shot-for-shot sequence which looks like it could've come from the team behind Robot Chicken. While obviously it's not at the level of something like The Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline, this kind of work is tedious, difficult and time-consuming. This six-and-a-half minutes sequence was crafted over the course of six months and half of that time was spent on shooting alone. The rest of the time was spent meticulously crafting the remarkable sets which could end up getting Gurwood a job at an animation house. Cool, right?
