Mr. Popper's Penguins Trailer

"Mr. Popper, gimme the birds." Apparently S.H.E.L.D. wants to collect penguins, too? Fox has debuted the full theatrical trailer on MSN for Mr. Popper's Penguins, their upcoming summer comedy starring Jim Carrey and a whole boatload of cute, lovable penguins. This trailer is similar to the international one we featured last month, but obviously spends more time exploring the story and introducing more characters, like the villain zookeeper played by Clark Gregg (aka Agent Coulson) and his family, played by Carla Gugino and Madeline Carroll. This really does look like a fun summer flick, I'm planning on seeing it. Enjoy.

Watch the final theatrical trailer for Mark Waters' Mr. Popper's Penguins from YouTube:

The original story, written by Richard and Florence Atwater in 1938, has been changed to move Mr. Popper to present-day New York. He sends a "fan letter" to an explorer because he regrets never visiting the North or South poles and eventually ends up receiving six penguins, which he must take care of. At the helm is experienced family-film director Mark Waters, of Mean Girls, Just Like Heaven, Spiderwick Chronicles and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with a script by Jared Stern (The Princess and the Frog), Sean Anders and John Morris (She's Out of My League). Mr. Popper's Penguins arrives in theaters starting June 17th.

Can't possibly be worse than Pirates 4, Priest, Mars Needs Moms, Hoodwinked 2, Arthur, Beastly, Big Mommas 3 (or 4 or whatever number it was..?)...I could go on...

Well it was nice of them to show us the entire movie. Those little bits spread out that two and a half minutes, that was director commentary, right?

I'm honestly disappointed. I was actually hoping that Clark Gregg was playing Agent Coulson, that S.H.E.I.L.D. was really trying to take the penguins, and this movie somehow fitted into the new Marvel Movie Universe. Not that we need super powered penguins, but having it a nice footnote or 2-second-news-clip-cameo in The Avengers would be awesome.

Up until the end I was kind of interested. Carrey should have donned his Vanilla Ice outfit from "In Living Color" 😀
