Rock of Ages Trailer

"I can guarantee you something a lot more cool… fame!" New Line has debuted the first official trailer via Apple for Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages, the new 80's rock musical based on the Broadway show. This looks like a whole bunch of classic 80's glam rock fun in every way possible. The cast includes a lot of big names, including Alec Baldwin, Malin Akerman, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston and even Catherine Zeta-Jones. Plus, introducing the legendary Stacee Jaxx - Tom Cruise! You've got to check out this trailer just for his brief, wild appearance. Enjoy!

Watch the first official trailer for Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages, in high def originally via Apple:

Tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more.

Rock of Ages is directed by Adam Shankman, of The Wedding Planner, Bringing Down the House, The Pacifier, Hairspray and Bedtime Stories previously. The screenplay has credits by Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2), Chris D'Arienzo (Barry Munday) and Allan Loeb (Things We Lost in the Fire, 21, The Switch, The Dilemma) and is based on the musical by Chris D'Arienzo that first hit Broadway in 2009. New Line Cinema/Warner Bros are bringing Rock of Ages to theaters on June 1st next summer. Anyone?

What did I just watch?

Big Boss on Dec 13, 2011

I'm comfortable enough to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the trailer. Sold.

Xerxexx on Dec 13, 2011

me too. those bands are some of the ones i grew up with.

Anonymous on Dec 13, 2011

Yeah but these overblown karaoke movies (Moulin Rouge, Happy Feet, etc) are the ones I throw up with.

This will rock the box office.

Robert L. Tuva on Dec 13, 2011

Musicals. Ruining movies and irking people since the 1920's.

A_A on Dec 13, 2011

No, original musicals with original songs are great. Sound of Music, Sweeney Todd... to name just two. It's the ones that rehash mainstream songs/bands into glorified karaoke music videos that ruin film.

Holy crap what a mistake... not showing Cruise singing as one of the main characters in a Rock & Roll MUSICAL says about all anyone needs to know I would think. I know he's used to being the top dog but this one just looks like it will be a dog...

KHD on Dec 13, 2011

not revealing the whole damn thing in the first trailer... that's why they call it a teaser, man.

Dan on Dec 13, 2011

Seriously? TOM frickin' CRUISE is shown near the very end of the trailer NOT singing in a musical about Rock & Roll and it's a tease? The same Tom Cruise that previous films he has starred in have used him as the SOLE focus of their trailers, the out and out KING of the box office, one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) movie stars of his generation... and you DON'T feature him in your trailer??? Come on... that's not a tease, that's a cover-up. I mean... we don't even see him with his mouth open in this film, that's gotta tell you something.

KHD on Dec 13, 2011

This is about par for the course in terms of teasers - the whole idea is that you don't show everything. I guarantee he'll be singing in the real trailer release.

tropic thunder

nick on Dec 13, 2011

They didn't show a lot of the cast singing except in little blips. The whole cast is featured with solos and such. Everyone knows the songs already so why ruin it but letting us hear them sing too much in the trailer? These are the same people that complain about trailers showing too much in other circumstances. Aha and yes I am sure Cruise will probably suck as a rock singer but I would love to be pleasantly surprised so I am not going to be negative about it.

Cute. Trailer was cool. Not my cup of tea but will probably catch it on cable. Or Netflix if there is a lot of justification.

First thing that struck me, just straight to watching the trailer, not realising it was a musical was... holy cow, why is everyone chewing the scenery so badly?! It clicked once they all started singing but man, this thing looks like ass.

Chris on Dec 13, 2011

this was shot at Revolution Live in Ft.Lauderdale

Fry_harrison on Dec 13, 2011

Wow! Catherine Zeta-Jones looks younger and younger while her husband Michael Douglas is aging! LOL!

She's a life-force vampire. As Michael withers away, she renews herself on his vital energy. Soon she will be prowling for newer, younger prey.

Turdburglar on Dec 13, 2011

Nothing is free. Why are you watching Glee anyways?

scientologist don't believe in rock n roll

Luke Hanna on Dec 13, 2011

Actually they detest drugs of any kind, especially anti-depressants (right Tom?). Rock' n Roll and Sex... ehh. I think that's pretty much every OTHER religion that detests or shuns those. In some form or another.

Only someone who originated from the creative doghouse that is musical theater could ever consider this to be anything close to rock. I mean jesus crap they are using what is basically the worst period for rock music ever, the 80's buttrock era, and they still fucked the tone up. Mark my words, musical theater is a creative graveyard and everything it produces is crass, ugly and soulless.

Lebowski on Dec 13, 2011

I'm not sure how the 'classics' will sound in the voices of Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin but as a fan of 80's rock, I'll keep this on my radar.

MithunOnThe.Net on Dec 14, 2011

What have they done to my favourite genre of music. 🙁

Jon Chamberlain on Dec 14, 2011

i have a feeling that the gang from Detroit Rock City need to show up and kick someones ass

Anonymous on Dec 14, 2011

This is depressing...

Mayor McCheese on Dec 14, 2011

Wow, I was not aware how easily it would be to feminize classic rock n' roll. Congratulations people, Twisted Sister, Foreigner, and Def Leppard have now been adapted for the Twilight crowd. Hoorah. I'm gonna go kill someone.

Jpeters1138 on Dec 14, 2011

Hollywood is a foreign country. A disturbing trailer.

Paulina Nava on Dec 21, 2011

No.  They replaced the German's with a women's rights group? wtf?!  AND DEF LEPPARD DIDNT GIVE THE FUCKING RIGHTS TO THE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY BUT TO THIS ? This had better show some titties and have a nice hard R rating for me to go see it!
