Retreat Trailer

A world away from everything you know. An early promo trailer for a new thriller called Retreat has popped up online via Vlicious that I highly suggest watching as soon as you can. The film stars Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton as a couple who head out to an island for some quiet time, only to find a man who wakes up claiming that a virus is sweeping across Europe. This is such a cool concept, kind of a reverse twist on 28 Days Later or even Night of the Living Dead, but it looks good. Jamie Bell, who you may recognize from King Kong or Jumper, plays the crazy guy. This does seem to show a lot, so watch out.

Watch the first promo trailer for Carl Tibbetts' Retreat:

Kate and Martin (Newton and Murphy) escape from personal tragedy to an Island Retreat. Cut off from the outside world, their attempts to recover are shattered when a Man (Bell) is washed ashore, with news of airborne killer disease that is sweeping throughout Europe. Produced by Gary Sinyor of Magnet Films.

Retreat is directed by first-time filmmaker Carl Tibbetts, from a screenplay co-written by Carl Tibbetts and Janice Hallett. This was produced by Ripple World and Magnet Films in the UK last year and was shot mostly in Wales. As far as we know, it doesn't have a US distributor and this is only an early sales trailer for it to find distributors soon. We'll keep you updated on its status and any release plans. Look interesting?

He's just making it up surely. And is clearly bonkers? Good moves for Billy Elliot though, it looks like Biggie Smalls, Tupac and Bob Marley doing a three part harmony up in heaven gooood.

Totally awesome. Great cast. Cillian Murphy and Jamie Bell are two of my favorites.

Dammit! I knew I shouldn't have watched this, I just couldn't resist Cillian... I watched until it turned into something else, which I knew would happen. I just wish these damn trailers would stop showing the whole movie! I'm sure there will be another twist, but still... They should have played out the whole virus thing. Ugh. Anyway, looks good. =P

Agreed.

:[ Did you just agree to yourself? Is that a joke about Jamie's character being crazy?

JL on May 6, 2011

7

Uh. No. I'm not Traveler. I'm agreeing to his statement about the "virus thing" playing out in the trailer. Anyway...

Oh, you know it's funny. Sometimes when these pages load up, and then new comments are added, and you click "show" they just get added to the end. So when I read yours it was "Is it me, or was that trailer poorly cut?..." and then "Agreed." I should have looked at "in reply to..." my bad. LOL

Sorry to tell you we haven't shown anything like the whole film! We have to show something in a trailer though.

Yes, but there is a fine line between showing enough to get people interested and showing too much. For me, after a certain point I saw too much. Personally, I like to know next to nothing of what a film is about before I see it. Sometimes scenes are shown and then throughout the film I end up anticipating those scenes because I know they're bound to happen due to the trailer. Clearly you know something I don't, but I'm not the only one with this general complaint about trailers. I'm just sayin'...

The thing is Traveler, if you like to know "next to nothing" about a film before you see it, a word advice -  don't watch trailers online! or maybe don't visit a site called firstshowing.net! You have a general complaint about trailers so don't watch 'em. Problem solved.

Is it me, or was that trailer poorly cut? I didn't feel the tension build.

Quanah on May 6, 2011

Yea, it's just a sales/promo trailer, so it's made to sell the movie to buyers, not audiences, therefore it just shows what it's about and doesn't build any tension like a real trailer. I think it even shows way too much, like the buildup/reveal near the end.

I hope Cillian Murphy does more American mainstream movies from now on.

Cool love this more independent flicks with top actors! Cillian is the man, he'll try anything! Shame the whole world is caught in a virus concept was pushed to one side in favour of something similar to cape fear.

Don't watch past 1:15 if you don't want the film spoiled for you. Motherfuckers need to learn how to cut proper unspoilerish trailers.

Keith mate. Good to know you know the whole film. As someone who has well, seen it well let's say 200 times or so, I can tell you, this isn't a spoiler trailer. It's not our fault that other films give away the whole plot so you automatically think we have too. And mind your language! There are kids out there!
