Time for some quick, morning wuxia action. MCN via The Playlist has found an official trailer, which I would call more of a teaser trailer, for Tsui Hark's new martial arts epic The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, starring Jet Li as well as Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Li Yuchun, Kwai Lun-mei, Louis Fan and Mavis Fan. The film is a remake of King Hu's Dragon Gate Inn (1966) and Raymond Lee's New Dragon Gate Inn (1992) and was shot in 3D. There are some very interesting shots in this, I thought it was worth featuring today. Check out that final scene with the huge sand tornadoes. Not exactly sure what's going on, but it looks cool!
Watch the first teaser trailer for Tsui Hark's Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, via YouTube:
A Ming dynasty general played by Jet Li finds himself at odds with a power-hungry eunuch, and eventually they battle at the titular Dragon Gate Inn, a remote outpost in the desert. Although this is based on the story of 1992's New Dragon Gate Inn, Tsui Hark has said that this film is less remake of an old classic, and more of a re-imagining. Flying Swords of Dragon Gate is written and directed by Vietnamese filmmaker Tsui Hark, of numerous films previously, including A Better Tomorrow III, The Swordsman, Once Upon a Time in China, The Master, Seven Swords, Missing and Detective Dee recently. This was just announced for an IMAX 3D release in China and Hong Kong this December, but there's no info on any US release plans yet.
