The Skin I Live In

Over the summer a peculiar teaser trailer and an equally strange but brilliant second trailer for Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In (or La piel que habito in Spanish) starring Antonio Banderas in a role that seems unlike anything he's done before. The trailer is nearly dialogue-free with some entrancing music accompanying the visuals which don't hint much at the narrative itself. Still it's chilling and really makes me think this will be a special kind of thriller, and something completely new for Almodovar as a director. Alex watched and loved the film at Cannes, but you can get a look for yourself by checking out the trailer below.

Here's the new trailer for Almodovar's The Skin I Live In originally from Yahoo:

Based on Thierry Jonquet's Mygale, this revenge tale tells the story of a plastic surgeon, played by Antonio Banderas (reuniting after 20 years with Pedro Almodóvar after working on Tie Me Up! Time Me Down! in 1990), seeking revenge on the men who raped his daughter. This is Oscar winning Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar's latest film following Broken Embraces from 2009, and it first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France just last month. Sony Pictures Classics is currently planning on bringing The Skin That I Live In to limited theaters in the US on November 18th in the fall. Who's interested in watching?

I heard people were leaving the screenings of this in groups and at a few showings the theater wound up empty because people were disgusted and disturbed by the content of this movie. I hope its worth seeing but all I have heard is that it's a film that pushes too far for no reason.

For that reason I'll pass. I heard enough about the book to know it will be disturbing. I've seen enough disturbing things in life...

I'm glad I read up on this story first-- to see it all unfold would have been one of those things that stays in your mind and just haunts the shit out of you. Brilliant, yes. But god damn. Lol.
