Transcendent Man Trailer

Ray Kurzweil is on a journey to bring his ideas to the world. We're featuring this official trailer (via Apple) for a indie documentary called Transcendent Man because I think it looks like an interesting story about the crazy/brilliant man known as Ray Kurzweil, a futurist with the theory of "the Singularity," a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we must enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. At the same time, some think he's amassed a cult following and preaches ludicrous ideas, so it looks like there's an even bigger story behind Kurzweil. I'm curious to check it out. Watch below.

Chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil, an inventor & futurist with a bold vision of the Singularity.

Transcendent Man is directed by filmmaker Barry Ptolemy, of only a short called The Catch previously. This doc was inspired by Ray Kurzweil's book The Singularity is Near and features original music from composer Philip Glass. This premiered at the AFI Film Festival way back in 2009. Ptolemaic Productions and Therapy Studios independently released Transcendent Man in limited theaters in early February with a national tour currently on-going. For more info about the tour, visit the film's official website: transcendentman.com.

It's funny how musician's aren't creating our keyboards...scientist are. Something seems so wring with that, but what do I know.

It looks good, but what does Stevie Wonder know? He did a song with Blue. With BLue. Yes with Blue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-3vSTiHLq4

Ghost in the Shell comes to mind.. I also believe our current ideas about the future i.e. singularity will be way outdated when/if singularity happens ,the same way the portrayals of the future are clunky and simplistic in the old black and white SciFi movies only it will be x times more so .. I hope he is right and I hope Skynet is not the result of it 🙂 There is also Terence McKenna who talks about Time Wave Zero...I believe they both came to similar ideas independantly..an awesome( in the classical meaning of the word) change for humanity is just around the corner.. ..great time to be alive if they are right 🙂

People thought Galileo was crazy when he said the sun doesn't circle the Earth but that the Earth circles the sun; or when the Wright Bros. claimed we could master flight. This won't be so "crazy" in the near future.

I don't want my computer to be aware of me googling stupid things...I don't want it to judge me...and think of me as a ant compared to its genius.

i just bought the movie from his website for $20... sent an instant digital copy... the movie was alright... it got a little slow at times... about half the doc was about the guys personal life which i don't care about... the rest was really repetitive... mostly stuff i already knew about... not much knowledge was gained... but for someone who doesn't know anything about the singularity theory i'd recommend watching... for those who already understand it and keep up on new technology, don't bother, the information is already outdated... (which i guess is whole the point)
