The Muppets

"There's no movie like a Muppet movie." Ohhh this looks absolutely, totally, completely wonderful, you've got to see it! After debuting a series of three parody trailers over the last few months, an official full-length trailer for the actual movie has hit the web courtesy of our friends at The Film Stage. This is the trailer for Disney's The Muppets starring the spectacular Jason Segel and Amy Adams and the entire cast of The Muppets, pretty much everyone you can think of and more, including the new guy, Walter. There's action, adventure, heroes, chickens, driving, dancing and plenty of wacky Muppets fun. Make sure to check this out!

Watch the full theatrical trailer for Disney's The Muppets (for real this time!):

James Bobin ("Flight of the Conchords") is at the helm of this new Muppets movie, which follows Walter and Gary (Segel), two die-hard Muppet fans and roommates who must save Muppet Theater by reuniting Kermit, Piggy, and the entire troupe to stage an "old-fashioned extravaganza." The cast is full of all kinds of celebrity cameos and other great random appearances, including Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais, Alan Arkin and Billy Crystal. Shooting is already finished, and Disney will be bringing The Muppets to theaters starting November 23rd this Thanksgiving. Doesn't this look great?

As much as I hate to say it, it looks rather standard. I'll give it props for mentioning the LHC, but I'll take them away instantly for the two main (human) characters. There is so much potential for the Muppets, why use two people, one overused and one who is absolutely terrible at what she does instead of the multitude of Muppets? Give me Tim Curry any day.

Wow so trolling on this trailer already. Good job. It looks great.

It's not trolling if he's voicing his opinion and giving reasons to back it up.  Not everyone has to like this, you know.  Simple disagreement with your opinion (which, btw, unlike Angry Chief's, came with no explanation) is not trolling.

Yea, what the heck, this looks fantastic! I'm amazed anyone would say that, not at all standard to me. I love Segel and Adams and the genuine joy they seem to be bringing to their roles makes it even better. And just the idea of bringing them back after so long, it really looks like a wonderful Muppet movie brought back. Wow!

Don't get me wrong. I love the Muppets and this movie is going to be great regardless of the human cast. I am just asking why them?

Angry Chief on Jun 20, 2011

Why Jason Segel? You don't know? Disney didn't think a Muppets movie would ever return until Segel did that Dracula's Lament song number in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He's a huge Muppets fan and then took this idea to Disney after FSM became a huge hit and they liked it. It's all his creation, he co-wrote the script and everything, so it's not as much a "why him" as it is you should be thanking Segel for bringing back the Muppets! Only makes sense for him to star in it, too.

Ooooh, I totally forgot about FSM. That was a great film, but the puppet part was masterful. I've thought on it and I think I have found my real problem: Misleading commercials. The commercials for X-men: First Class sucked, the movie was more than good. Brooklyn's Finest looked bland, turned out great, same for the Town, etc. I still don't like that actress, though.

I agree, they should have used someone like Brendan Fraiser.......Oh, that's right...he already destroyed the Looney Tunes movie franchise.  No need to include humans except in cameos.  Refer to the original Muppet Movie.

Jason Segel sure looks like he's clueless despite it being the project of his life.

Always thought the 'cheese' that Segel delivered on HIMYM was something the material asked of him but then you see him do the same awkward trying-too-hard shtick in every role since and realise the guy just can't act.

I was sold on the two seconds when you see Dr. Bunsen and Beaker at the Hardin Collider, it was an instant giggle at the thought of those two let loose tryin to find the Higgs boson.

Gotta say, I wasn't floored by this. It felt epic some places, but kind of meh in a lot of other places. Besides the fact that everyone agreed "We Built This City" is the worst 80s song ever-- I guess I was looking for more out of this project. We shall see, eh?

I grew up on the muppet show. Watched it faithfully and loved every episode. Corny, yes, but I was a kid and I'll definitely watch this movie in the theater to take a few hours to forget I'm an adult with responsibilities and real problems. 🙂 Looks great. Looks fun.

I really don't understand the hatred for this... I seriously just don't get it. Not only is it just awesome seeing the Muppets back in a full-on song 'n dance musical, but I can't see how this looks like shit at all. I just don't get it, I don't understand this hatred or how you're seeing that or anything, it's baffling me!

I hope they can explain the younger generation the character's personalities. Otherwise...they may not get the whole "joke".

Are you guys seriously critiquing a Muppet Movie?! Amy Adams and that guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall are window dressing, Kermit and the Bunch will do the damn thing right. This will be awesome.

Is there a better site than Firstshowing now? I remember when it didn't have all this garbage.. "MUST WATCH"'s were actually good movies...  Please just explain your new focus... because this is clearly not the site it was a year ago...

Mcfitz on Jun 20, 2011

33

This isn't a "Must" Watch, just a "Watch", but first things first, I can't always account for the quality of every movie. I/we think this movie looks great, but you do not. If you're not enjoying most of the trailers that come out this year, that's not FS's fault and there's not much we can do about that. We post almost EVERY trailer that comes out, the only ones we don't are for movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 (unless you want us to post that trailer, too?). You have the freedom to have an opinion about every trailer, so I don't know what differences you're complaining about. Have you seen the trailers for Dragon Tattoo or Deathly Hallows: Part 2 or Rise of the Planet of the Apes? Those are Must Watch!

Alex Billington on Jun 20, 2011

wait wait wait....Alvin and the Chipmunks 3?....WTF!?!?!?!

Jason Segel and Amy Adams are going to kill this movie. Horrible, horrible casting. I don't care if he co-wrote it or not. There's a reason that classic Muppet cameos were of POPULAR actors and not the dredge of awkward teenage comedies.

Alex..  I must say.. I appreciate you letting me have my little pout.. and not pulling my comment.   I also appreciate the response. Like everything in life.. tastes change, and the evolution of FS I feel is becoming less and less distinct from other movie sites.  I'm just saying FS kicked ass when there was less mainstream junk and it was more focused on opening our eyes to the excellence of directing, behind the scenes happenings, and less about the actors and hype.  FS is not what it used to be(in my opinion).  I would really like to hear feedback from other fans of FS and read their opinions.. If there is a lot of people that feel the same way might it be worth considering our opinions? I don't know. Is volume of readership what you want? Should it be more mainstream then?  Maybe you still hype what I like. Maybe I just have a hard time wading through to find what I like.
