Warner Bros is planning their future, with a few new important release dates. First up, ERCBoxOffice reports Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover, is now scheduled for limited release on November 9th this fall, with a wide expansion right after. That film also stars Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas and others, and is considered to be an Oscar heavy contender. WB has also set Alfonso Cuarón's new sci-fi Gravity in 3D, starring Sandra Bullock & George Clooney, for release on November 21, 2012 next year. Updates for Journey 2 and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close below.
Two other films with new dates: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the Stephen Daldry adaptation also with Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks and Thomas Horn as Oskar, is now set for a limited opening on Christmas Day, December 25th, with a wide release on January 20th, 2012. That definitely sounds like a heavy Oscar push for the Scott Rudin-produced adaptation about a 10-year-old inventor, astrophysicist, tambourine player and pacifist who searches New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father, who was killed in 9/11. Lastly, the 3D adventure sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, with Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson and Michael Caine, is officially set for February 10th, 2012 next year.
I'm glad that we have a date for Gravity, as that's one of my most anticipated movies coming up from any studio. A long wait, but it's going to be worth it, I'm sure. Next year is going to be an awesome year for sci-fi. And as for Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, I've only seen one scene from it, but it was riveting, I'm very anxious to check that one out as well. As always, visit either our 2011 or 2012 Release Schedules for the full line-ups.

How come a starlet Armie Hammer (who is he anyway?) is credited before Hollywood famed Naomi Watts?

Armie Hammer played the Winklevoss twins in TSN and he's playing The Lone Ranger as well. A far superior actor to Naomi Watts though you're correct in saying he's not as vetted in the industry as she is yet.

I hope J. Edgar is not a cookie cutter version. I hope they film him as the racist, cross dressing, destroy black men's lives by any means necessary kind of guy that he was.
