Weinstein Company is Developing Another 'Amityville Horror' Project
by Ethan Anderton

Just last week we learned that Hannibal Classics was developing Amityville: The Legacy 3D, another installment in the long-running Amityville Horror series. However, a completely different project has just been revealed by Dimension Films, Miramax and The Weinstein Company that will also toss another film into the horror franchise. The three companies just announced production of The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, a film that will take the recent found footage craze and apply it to the story of the classic horror series. by showcasing the events after the time of the original The Amityville Horror book and movie.
With the footage dating back to 1976, the story will follow an ambitious female television news intern on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world as she leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror. Of course, she may end up unwittingly opening a door to something unreal that she may never be able to close.
Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands are behind the script and will also direct the film which is currently slated to hit theaters on January 27, 2012. Again, I have to say that I'm not all that thrilled about another installment in this franchise, even if it does take advantage of the popular found footage narrative device. Also, I'm not sure how the Amityville: The Legacy 3D and The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes will co-exist if they're both looking to get off the ground sooner than later, so I think one will end up taking a backseat to the other. What do you think?
