Werner Herzog Playing the Villain in Tom Cruise's 'One Shot' Thriller!
If we had WTF or crazy categories, that's where I'd be filing this! Variety is reporting that the upcoming Paramount thriller One Shot, set to star Tom Cruise, being directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects screenwriter, director of The Way of the Gun) from his own script, is getting the oddest of villains. Apparently German filmmaker/documentarian Werner Herzog will be starring as the villain "The Zec", an ex-prisoner of war who arranges and stages a killing and is the head of the conspiracy. Cruise plays Jack Reacher, who investigates the same case of a sniper accused of murdering five people before being captured.
We've been following this One Shot project for a while, as its gearing up to start production and has started casting, with Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall and Richard Jenkins joining. Variety's Justin Kroll reports that McQuarrie had always wanted to work with Herzog, and after meeting him, "he saw the opportunity to do so with his latest project." This is the first acting role for Herzog, besides cameos, voiceover work for "The Simpsons" and of course appearances in his own docs and the like. This is the next big action Tom Cruise project and already has a February 8th, 2013 release date set by Paramount. It's based on a series of books by Lee Child, which a lot of people are familiar with, which should make this exciting to see. It's definitely interesting to see Herzog cast in this too, that's for sure. What do you guys make of all this?
Pretty damn awesome.

Herzog acted in Julien Donkey-Boy which he was hilariously psychotic!

Herzog in 'Julian Donkey-Boy' is only the second scariest acting preformance by a director; no#1 being ofc David Cronenberg in 'Nightbreed'. But yes! This might be cool, bring it!

Tom Cruise is a fool to star himself as REACHER. I know actors lied about their heights but 5'7" doesn't mean 6'5". I love Lee Child's Reacher's novels-but he is such a sellout to have Tom Cruise to play Reacher. Tom is no Reacher! I'm very sad to see this. If anyone reads these novels, they would understand my disappointment. So another odd casting does not come as a surprise.

I agree with the above comment Tom Cruise is not Reacher plain and simple. Lee Child's books are all great and this is just completely ridiculous Tom Cruise? Really. You could of tried for someone a little taller maybe? Matt Damon maybe? It really pisses me off cuz i've wanted to see a big screen adaption of a Reacher novel this...this wasnt what i had in mind.
