Earlier this month we learned that Sherlock Holmes actress Kelly Reilly had landed her biggest role yet as the female lead in Flight, the film marking director Robert Zemeckis' return to live-action filmmaking with Denzel Washington as his lead actor. The story follows a commercial airline pilot named Whip Whitaker who is hailed as a hero after landing a malfunctioning plane that was close to crashing. However, an investigation into the cause of the crash actually reveals he was flying under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Now Deadline has word that John Goodman has joined the cast of this promising drama.
The real meat of the story follows the pilot's journey as he's given the label of a hero, but doesn't think he deserves it. Goodman will play a friend of Whip's who tries to help him come to terms with his problems. Meanwhile the pilot's union and airline try to keep the truth behind his condition during the flight under wraps. Along with Goodman, a great supporting cast including Don Cheadle, Bruce Greenwood and Brian Geraghty has also signed on for the project. Goodman continues a streak of great projects including Ben Affleck's Argo, an adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and a great guest stint on NBC's comedy series "Community." Honestly, the more John Goodman we have on screen, the better.
