Zoe Kravitz & Sophie Okonedo Join Will & Jaden Smith in 'After Earth'

Zoe Kravitz / Sophie Okonedo

Just last week we learned that M. Night Shyamalan's gestating sci-fi project 1,000 A.E. seemed to be going solely by the title After Earth after the filmmaker himself talked about the project on Twitter. Though Heat Vision still refers to the project by the former title, that doesn't change the fact that the film has just gained two more cast members, regardless of the title. Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda) will join the father-son duo of Will Smith and The Karate Kid star Jaden Smith in the story of a young boy and his father crash landing on Earth, 1,000 years after humans abandoned it.

The trade details the story even more saying Smith is playing the hero while Jaden plays his son who is considered a failure as a warrior. However, after the crash-landing on Earth, it's up to the son to save his father. Kravitz would play Smith's daughter while Okonedo would play his wife. Likely the two will only appear in the beginning of the film before the father and son crash on Earth. Once again, what makes this project really intriguing is the fact that Shyamalan is working from a script by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) and Stephen Gaghan (Traffic). The film is slated to start shooting early next year for a June 2013 release.

That would be horror movies not sci fi and your post is a epic fail.

TheLaughingMan on Dec 6, 2011

I dont get where you're going with this Jbrotsis...    It looks like they're announcing who they've cast as the protagonist's family.  ...they just so happen to be black.  If you have that much of a problem with that, don't see it.

he's just trying to inject some humor into it.......i laughed. you must not have a sense of humor.

Anonymous on Dec 6, 2011

Not when it comes to racially insensitive remarks.  I dont share that sense of humor.

Anonymous on Dec 6, 2011

Especially when the joke doesnt make the least bit of sense

Anonymous on Dec 6, 2011

solo - it wasn't insensitive. every black friend i have rips on us "whiteys" for dancing badly.......and there isn't any offense intended - THESE ARE JOKES. again - you have NO sense of humor.

Anonymous on Dec 6, 2011

I agree Solo and Beevis just cause all your black friends are racially insensitive doesn't make it okay for anyone else to be.Oh and white people can dance by the way.

Producers of Titan A.E. should sue them to death for trademark infringement.

Dinolaser on Dec 6, 2011

if Will and jaden smith want to make their own family films dont expect the public to go and pay to see such dross...

Crom on Dec 6, 2011

But they will pay. Will Smith is one of the few actors who can even guarantee a movie's profit anymore. The new Karate Kid was an international blockbuster, so despite people like you who constantly come into these threads and bitch about it, people are paying to see his family in movies, and will continue to do so.

Jason on Dec 6, 2011

Oh,'re REALLY going to use the Karate Kid movie as a source?  It had nothing on the original, and Will Smith made sure they promoted the hell out of it.  I want to see Will Smith in movies still, but not his whole damned family tree.  He's taken nepotism to a whole new level.

They are waaaaay overdue (M. Night and W. Smith) in making a great film. I won't hate and hope for the best. Not too crazy about his children having to be in his films though.

ur_babys_daddy on Dec 6, 2011

I was thinking the all black cast (so far) might be the twist. They'll see other types of people and fear them as they come from an Earth or time that was only black people. So one of those movies that turns race on it's head... like um... um... oh yeah PLANET OF THE FUCKING APES!  I'm trying to see how this is going to be good and all I think about are better movies.

Mrfish on Dec 6, 2011

i think the storyline sounds ridiculous.

Anonymous on Dec 6, 2011

I hate nepotism, but that's because I don't have family in the business.

jeffrey on Dec 6, 2011

Will not pay to watch Smith pimp out his little $cientologist family for anything at anytime. Creepy friggin family all around.

Uberman on Dec 6, 2011

the twist: They are Cro-Magnon.

M. Night Shyamalan has exactly ZERO box office worth right now. How are they going to market this latest disaster?

rennmaxbeta on Dec 7, 2011

Haters there are other families that make and made movies together one being the Sheen / Estavez, Martin and son Charlie made a couple movies that I've seen there maybe more, the sons Charlie and Emelio also made movies together. Before you all start with my spelling hint I'm not Spanish, latino, Hispanic or whatever you other idiots decide to call them. And I do have much respect for the Spanish population.
