Akiva Goldsman to Adapt 'Lucid' Comic Book for Warner Bros. Film

While Akiva Goldsman has plenty of experience as a screenwriter behind the pages of films like A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, Cinderella Man and more, it's his producing skills that will be utilized for a new project this time. Variety reports Goldsman will develop and produce an adaptation of Archaia Entertainment's comic book series Lucid, for which Warner Bros. has just snagged the rights. "True Blood" actor Michael McMillian and illustrator Anna Wieszczyk crafted the book which takes place in a parallel universe where magic is real and world leaders have secret agents working to fight off supernatural threats.

The story focuses on a young agent, recently appointed "Protector of the Realm," who must use his skills as a covert spy and combat mage to stop an occult technology dealer, but as of now, no screenwriter has been hired to adapt the book. In addition, Star Trek star Zachary Quinto will also produce the film through his Before the Door production banner, the company behind Margin Call which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. His banner actually is also behind the creation of the book itself, so it's no surprise that he's involved with the big screen adaptation as well. It's comic books like these that really get me excited for film adaptations over Marvel and DC Comics digging in their superhero well. Agreed?
