Time for a slight change of pace (from all the Die Hards, Broken Cities and Lincolns today) with a charming animated French film called Ernest & Celestine about a friendship between a big bear and a little mouse. This delightful hand-animated feature has been playing the film festival circuit, but thanks to a tip from SlashFilm we now have a trailer, though it's still entirely in French. That said, the animation is beautiful and the heart of the story is still there. It kind of reminds me of Ratatouille, in the way a small mouse becomes friends with someone he's not supposed to be friends with. I really want to watch this! Check out the trailer.
Here's the first official French trailer for animated Ernest & Celestine, originally from Twitch:
The story of a friendship between a little mouse named Celestine who didn't want to become a dentist, and a bear named Ernest who didn't want to become a notary. Premiered in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes.
Ernest & Celestine is co-directed by French animation filmmakers Benjamin Renner (A Mouse's Tale), Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier, the latter two also behind the brilliant animated comedy A Town Called Panic. The script was written by Daniel Pennac. This first premiered in Cannes earlier this year. GKIDS acquired the film for US release, and will be unveileing an English-dubbed version sometime in late 2013.
