Amy Ryan & Dane DeHaan to Join West Memphis 3 Film 'Devil's Knot'
With names like Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon already attached, and the subject matter surrounding a zeitgeist-y topic like The West Memphis Three, Chloe director Atom Egoyan's Devil's Knot isn't hurting for attention. But it just got some more from us, as Variety reports Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan and Chronicle star Dane DeHaan have joined the cast, provided they can work out some scheduling arrangements. Ryan would play Firth's estranged wife, while DeHaan would be a teenager who shares some kind of history with the three young murder victims at the center of this ultimately tragic misstep in justice.
Hopefully, bringing on such a high profile cast to this project will encourage more people to seek out the amazing and frustrating story of the West Memphis Three, three teenagers who were convicted of murder back in the 90's despite a complete lack of physical evidence. The story made national headlines and took place at the height of a Satanic scare that was going through American society at the time, putting the WM3 essentially at the center of a media witch hunt. The story is expertly and exhaustively told in Amy Berg's documentary West of Memphis, which we saw at Sundance earlier this year and liked quite a bit (as much as anyone can "like" an infuriating real-life story like this).
Firth plays a lawyer who takes on the case pro bono, while Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the murder victims. Alessandro Nivola just signed on as Terry Hobbs, the man whom new evidence pegs as the true murderer, while Mireille Enos, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha, and Kristopher Higgins round out the cast so far. The pivotal role of Damien Echols has yet to be cast, but we'll keep you posted when that spot gets filled. Filming for Devil's Knot begins on June 25th, and a 2013 release is expected.

Can we count on an Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam contribution to the soundtrack`?
