Adam McKay

With news of Anchorman 2 getting fans excited, especially with some more recent updates from director Adam McKay, there have been some changes elsewhere in the comedy world. Initially, McKay was also slated to direct the football comedy Three Mississippi (formerly known as Turkey Bowl), which pairs The Other Guys stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in the story of a feud between two families over an annual Thanksgiving touch football game that has existed for 50 years. Now a greenlight for Anchorman 2 has him stepping away as THR reports Sex Drive duo Sean Anders and John Morris will now direct.

Morris and Anders are also behind the horrible looking Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg comedy That's My Boy, but I won't hold all of the garbage from that trailer against them, because they didn't write the script. On the contrary, the duo do have quite a talent for comedy on the page as they delivered work Hot Tub Time Machine, She's Out of My League and the tolerable, but not amazing family film, Mr. Popper's Penguins. Bringing them on board to direct feels like a good choice, especially since their brand of humor is pretty close to McKay and producer Judd Apatow. As long we definitely get Anchorman 2, this is just fine.

What?!  I skipped Mr. Poppers Penguins because it looked like complete garbage.  Are you telling me that it's actually worth watching?

It's not amazing, but it has some flares of old Jim Carrey, and it's a fun family film. Don't go into expecting to be blown away, but I was surprised that it wasn't an absolute piece of crap. It's worth a Redbox or Netflix rental.

Good to know, I've got a 6 year old and an 8 year old that were begging me to take them when it was in theaters and I think I ended up taking them to Fast Five instead.

Nothing wrong w/ Fast Five.

Well, That's My Boy looks like it has some flares of old Adam Sandler, and it's R-rated which is refreshing cuz we've never gotten that from him. And David Wain and Ken Marino wrote the script, even if Anders & Morris didn't. So shouldn't that count for something? Frankly they could have been hired to direct this based off their work on that.
