Writer Jason Keller is looking to capitalize on two trends that are hot in Hollywood right now: the fairy tale movie and the vampire film. Keller wrote Mirror Mirror, Tarsem's fantasy take on the Snow White mythology that hits theaters this March, and now Deadline reports that the scribe just sold an untitled pitch to Sony Pictures about the origins of Dracula. Not much is known about the story, other than it's intended to be a period film that kick-starts a franchise, but it joins a host of other vampire-related films in various stages of development. Read on for a rundown of all the other bloodsucking movies in the works.

The most obvious similarity is to the recently revived Dracula Year Zero at Universal, which also chronicles the origins of Vlad the Impaler (who later becomes Dracula). The story of Dracula will be told in another perspective in Harker that might star Russell Crowe. But the bloodsuckers aren't confined to just one genre. We've got an action flick coming in the form of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter out in theaters this summer, and Dwayne Johnson is hunting too in Monster Hunters Survival Guide.

Meanwhile, in a completely different arena is Amy Heckerling's romantic comedy Vamps and Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive which will tilt a bit more toward the romantic end of the spectrum, while some more moody takes on the classic movie monster include Mary Harron's The Moth Diaries and Let Me In director Matt Reeves' The Passage There's even room for more obscure stuff like the 1930's Dust Bowl comic adaptation In the Dust. And Johnny Depp has a category all his own, playing a vampire in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and then investigating them for Edgar Wright in The Night Stalker.

Whew. Listing them all out like that highlights Hollywood's obsession these days, but it's hard to argue with it when there is so much variation among the styles and tones of these upcoming films. One thing's for sure - I bet Keller's version of Dracula won't be looking in the Mirror Mirror anytime soon. (Get it? Because he won't see his reflection! Because he's a vam…never mind). Looking forward to any of these?
