Anthony Hopkins Taking Villainous Role in 'RED 2' If Schedule Allows

Our most recent talk of Anthony Hopkins came in the form of an awesome first look photo from Hitchcock, the film formerly known as Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, with the actor in full make-up as the iconic title director. It was a stunning piece of work on behalf of the make-up department, and we can't wait to see the likely Oscar-caliber performance Hopkins will deliver. However, the actor isn't passed having a little fun on the big screen either. That was evident with his turn as Odin in Thor (a powerful performance) and now Deadline says Hopkins is being courted to play the villain in RED 2 next.
However, another sequel might keep him from taking the role as Thor 2 is also slated to shoot around the same time this year, and his commitment to that film is already set in stone. Hopkins would be a great addition to the cast which features returning members Bruce Willis, Mary Louise-Parker, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich and new faces like recently cast Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee (Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe). The story has the team of retired using their old school methods again to face new enemies across Europe. Hopkins would be a perfect European villain as a genius scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum and is still intimidating even as he nears 75-years of age. This scheduling issue should be sorted out soon, so stay tuned.
