Are you in the 1701? Now what do we have here, J.J.? Hidden in the full teaser trailer that debuted today is a viral website URL. I missed it the first few times and only caught it thanks to TrekMovie pointing it out. The text is hidden in the scene where we see villain Benedict Cumberbatch in the glass prison saying, "You think you're safe… you are not." The URL appears on the right control panel in the HD version from Apple around 01:07. It points to the site called Are You The 1701?, with a viral sign-up and logo and not much more. An early tease, but at least it means there is a viral brewing for J.J.'s Star Trek Into Darkness!
Here's the website for Are You The 1701? and all that it shows so far. Click and it says "Shall We Begin?"
"Thank you, we will tell you when the search begins." Don't forget that the USS Enterprise is designated as NCC-1701, which might mean this 1701 connection is alluding to making it onto the Enterprise. Either way, it's a good connection and the only thing we've got so far, especially if this URL comes hidden from a control panel on the Enterprise. We'll keep you updated on other changes. Sign-up if you think you are "the 1701!"
Star Trek Into Darkness is the sequel to the J.J. Abrams-directed reboot of Gene Roddenberry's original science fiction series. The screenplay this time was co-written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof. Most of the crew is back, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin & John Cho. Paramount is bringing Into Darkness to theaters May 17th next summer.
