Watch: Based on a True Story Hostage Thriller 'The Assault' Trailer
Whoa! Screen Media Films has released an official US trailer (in HD via Apple) for their action thriller The Assault, a based-on-a-true-story thriller about the Air France hijacking in 1994, and the elite SWAT team (in France, the GIGN) called in to storm the plane and rescue the passengers. Those who've seen it says it uses "United 93's faux-verite style" and it certainly has a bit of that feel, but with an extra look at the people behind the GIGN team and the politics of it. This still looks intense, and it even looks like they matched action inside the plane with archival footage of the actual event. Chilling. Check out the trailer in full below!
Watch the official US trailer for Julien Leclercq's The Assault, in high definition from Apple:
An action packed thriller, Julien Leclercq's The Assault, originally L'assaut in French, is the gripping true story of the hijacking of a Paris-bound flight on Christmas Eve 1994, and the 48-hour rescue. When four heavily armed Islamic terrorists hijack a Paris-bound Air France flight on the runway, 227 innocent lives hang in the balance. Their only chance of rescue is the determined GIGNs (the elite counter-terrorism paramilitary unit of the French National Gendarmerie). The Assault is a harrowing tale that captures the claustrophobic tension on board until they reach the final outcome, played out during an intense battle in the narrow confines of an aircraft. Screen Media Films will release in US theaters on April 6th this spring.

Not entirely sure the world needs another film that portrays Islam in a poor light.
Me on Mar 14, 2012
yeah, they can just do that by themselves on a daily basis

I do not think Islam is portrayed by any movie in a poor light. Crazy, evil, ridiculous and/or pointless fanaticism is.

What the world needs is for people to stop compartmentalizing each other.

not enough Jean Reno.

I remember this event. If the terrorists had been successful, and blown up the plane over Paris as was their plan, Sept 11 probably wouldn't have happened.

May you guys please remove the "Islamic Terrorists" from the movie description? I am a Muslim, and contrary to what A LOT of people believe today, Islam does not support terror nor violence, that's what the media wants you to believe, and thats because in recent years, Terrorists do what they do in the name of Islam, which is not right. Islam is a religion of love and peace, and I know I will get a reply saying that the Quran says otherwise, but I read the Quran, all of it, and I understand it. So please just erase the Islamic part, and leave the terrorists. Terrorism has no religion.

Where is this playing in the US? Supposedly a limited release in early April, but I can't find it in LA at all (unless it's already gone).
