Good news for "Book of Mormon" star Josh Gad. The actor, who's appeared in films like 21 and Love and Other Drugs, has just scored a high-profile job that will garner much attention from anyone who loves Apple products. Variety reports that Gad will play the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in Joshua Michael Stern's independent film Jobs: Get Inspired. Ashton Kutcher caused quite the stir early this month when the announcement dropped that he will play Apple's other co-founder, Steve Jobs, but he's cleared his schedule to prepare for the role and could end up surprising audiences with his performance.
Gad has been an entertaining comedic presence for a while now, but can he pull off the struggles and the drama of the early years of Apple? We'll have to wait and find out, but this could very well turn into a "Jack Black in King Kong" scenario. I thought Black was fantastic in a serious, dramatic role in Peter Jackson's 2005 film, but most people couldn't look past Black's comedic roots. Here's hoping Gad doesn't receive that same rejection from the general public. They are actors, after all - let's at least try to avoid pigeonholing people until they prove without a doubt that they can only do one thing well. Thoughts?
