'Casino Royale' Villain Mads Mikkelsen Takes 'Thor 2' Bad Guy Role

Thor / Mads Mikkelsen

Now that Marvel has firmed up not one, but three different villains for Iron Man 3, it's time that the other Marvel Studios blockbuster for 2013 got some casting as well. Variety has word that Mads Mikkelsen, likely most recognized for playing the blood-crying villain Le Chiffre in the Casino Royale with Daniel Craig, will be playing an unknown villain in Thor 2. However, don't count out Tom Hiddleston as Loki since the trade also says the mischievous brother of Thor will still have a big part as the sequel's antagonist. And for those who have seen The Avengers (hell, who hasn't?), there should be plenty of tension back at Asgard.

Frankly, I'm not well-versed enough with the world of Thor to venture a guess as to who Mikkelsen might be playing, but maybe the fact that Loki is still involved gives us a hint? Or does Mikkelsen's Danish background give us insight into his role? Comic book experts will have to sound off in the comments below with suggestions, hopes and dreams. All I know is Mikkelsen is a great actor and he should make for a solid adversary to the mighty Thor. In the meantime, fans of the first film will be happy to know that Idris Elba has already confirmed that he will return as Asgard's gatekeeper Heimdall, a character that many wish had more action in the first film. Production starts this summer with a November 15th, 2013 release planned.

Yeah, I was like AS LONG AS TOM HIDDLESTON IS STILL IN IT, I'M FINE. I like Mads Mikkelsen. His name too. I thought he was really awesome in Casino Royale.

He'll be Skurge. The loyal minion of the Enchantress.

Oh yes. The Enchantress! that is a good guess. Is he big enough tho to be Executioner? that guy is supposed to be a pretty big.

No, it isn't.  Mads is awesome in that movie.

I'll agree... he's awesome in a poorly written, poorly executed, poorly edited film with zero story or character development. Yep. He's awesome in a piece of shit.

Good choice.

Well, since Thor has tangled with just about every other pantheon of gods in the book, he could be anyone.  Ares was a big one, and given his recent popularity thanks to a stint in Dark Avengers, it could be interesting.  Still, Skurge, Tyr (The Norse god of war) or maybe a minion of Hella's seems probable.

would be a great casting for Executioner.

Mikkelsen was great in Casino Royale. His role as One Eye in Valhalla Rising was better. Even if that movie lacked substance or made any kind of sense. Great choice. Hopefully Mavel doesn't f*ck it up like they did with a perfectly cast Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2.

I like that you credit Mikkelsen in the headline as 'Casino Royale' villain but use an image from 'King Arthur' in the graphic. 😉

Not King Arthur, its Clash of the Titans
