Christopher Eccleston is Malekith the Accursed in the 'Thor' Sequel

Last month a small bit of information from a stuntman prompted the assumption that Thor: The Dark World would be dealing with Dark Elves somehow. And given that bit of information, we assumed that the new villain, originally slated to be played by Mads Mikkelsen before he dropped out due to scheduling, would be Malekith The Accursed, the leader of the Dark Elves. It turns out our assumption is correct is Deadline reports Christopher Eccleston is set for the villain. However, at this time specific story details about the plot, or how Loki might come into play with this new villain have yet to be revealed. More below.
In the original Thor comics, Malekith strikes up an alliance with Loki on behalf of the fire demon Surtur, but we're not sure if the latter character will be a part of the story. Malekith also has a plotline involving getting ahold of the Casket of Ancient Winters and releasing a terrible winter all over Earth. However, as I pointed out previously, Loki already tried that plot with the Frost Giants, so I don't think we need the same thing to happen twice. No matter what the plot, Malekith will give Thor a run for his money since he has the ability to manipulate the forces of magic for teleportation, energy projection, physical malleability, flight (by transforming into mist) and the ability to change the shape and appearance of other beings or objects. In addition, he has the standard bonuses of super strength, speed, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes.
Plus, Malekith also has the Dark Elves named Bitterhand, Wormwood, and Grendell at his disposal, and in the comics, they try to destroy Thor on several occasions, including once while Mjolnir was being reforged. Will this storyline make it into the movie? I guess we'll have to wait and see. Eccelston is certainly a solid replacement for Mikkelsen, and you can see his villainous turns in films like Gone in 60 Seconds and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, but geeks will also know him as one of the many men to fill the shoes of "Doctor Who." Here's hoping we get a solid clash of titans in this Marvel sequel. We'll be watching for additional updates.

Nice, lets hope for a grand battle. The one with Destroyer was too quick when he got his hammer from poppa Odin.

agreed. as good of a movie Thor was, I felt there wasn't enough of a big action scene in the entire movie like I had hoped. For a demigod, you'd like there'd be a grand action fight scene like we saw in The Avengers.

Hopefully they can continue with that trend.

As hard as it is for Thor because Loki is his "brother"...Thor just needs to kill Loki (or have Hulk do it) so Loki stops ruining Thor's life (Loki has no problem killing Thor).

But thats the most defining thing that separates Thor from Loki, Thor still has hope and will always have hope for the good in him. No matter what Thor will never kill him, it would contradict his whole character.

He's not great in big movies. Where's the news about Lindelof getting binned of the next Prometheus film?
