Drafthouse's Full 'Summer of 82' Line-Up + First 'E.T.' Poster Arrives
"E.T. phone home." Get ready for one of the best summers of movies in a long time. I'm not just talking about all the 2012 movies ready to bust some blocks, I'm talking about the countless classics that debuted in the summer of 1982, that the Alamo Drafthouse is bringing back for their "Summer of 1982" events. FirstShowing is a media partner and we first announced the events (with a trailer!) a few months ago (we're presenting Tron in July). However, the Alamo Drafthouse has updated their schedule with ticket info, more details, an E.T. poster, and added 12 more films to the summer line-up (including Pink Floyd's The Wall)!
Well, actually, they didn't exactly add these - they're just following the release schedule from 1982! Alamo Drafthouse theaters (along with most of its current locations) are hosting each of the 20 iconic movies that opened that summer on their respective release weekends coming up this summer. Initially, there only 8 movies on the line-up, but now they've added 12 more from that year. They're also offering badges for $80 that will provide admission to the original 8 films in the programming series (only $10 a movie!), but all of the others will still have individual events. Here's their full line-up, including all 20 movies they're showing:
Alamo Drafthouse's Summer of 1982:
May 9 - Vice Squad
May 11 - Conan the Barbarian (main event, tickets on sale April 17)
May 18 - The Road Warrior (main event, tickets on sale May 4)
May 25 - Rocky III (main event, tickets on sale May 11)
June 1 - Poltergeist (main event, tickets on sale May 18)
June 3 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (main event, tickets on sale May 18 )
June 6 - Escape 2000
June 8 - E.T. (main event, tickets on sale May 25)
June 20 - The Sword and The Sorcerer
June 22 - The Thing (main event, tickets on sale June 8 )
July 1 - The Secret of Nimh
July 6 - Tron (main event, tickets on sale June 22)
July 9 - Pink Floyd: The Wall
July 10 - Class of 1984
July 13 - Friday the 13th: Part 3 in 3D
July 17 - Halloween 3
July 24 - Q: The Winged Serpent
July 28 - The Dark Crystal
August 12 - Fast Times at Ridgemont High
August 25 - The Last Unicorn
It still looks like they're missing Blade Runner, the only glaring exception to this otherwise fantastic line-up of movies. Can you believe all of these came out in one summer? That's what I'm hoping for this year, one excellent movie after another. If you're in Texas and/or interested in attending this amazing summer series, those $80 badges (for 8 movies) go on sale tomorrow, April 17th, at drafthouse.com/1982. Tickets will also go on sale for the first screening in the series, Conan the Barbarian. Check your local theaters for info on tickets to "Summer of 1982" shows in Houston, San Antonio & Winchester, VA as screening & ticket sale dates vary. Here's the new poster for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (playing June 8th) by Dan McCarthy:
Fantastic work, I think I may actually go for a print of this. Would love to see that up on my walls. I'm hesitant about admitting, but E.T. has a special place in my heart, not only for being a Spielberg classic, but just for being a central film that I grew up with as a kid. This is an awesome series of movies this summer and reminds me just how unforgettable one summer can truly be, if the right movies are playing. For more info on any of the events, details on the screenings or how to get tickets, visit drafthouse.com/1982. We'll definitely be following this series as it plays out this summer, half because we're a part of it, but also because this is such an awesome concept to go hand-in-hand with the summer of 2012 that lies ahead. See you there!

The Wrath of Khan was the best movie from that summer. "Khan... I'm laughing at the superior intellect."
