Back when Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton was brought on board to helm a feature film adaptation of DC Comics' Lobo. It was a strange change of pace from having Sherlock Holmes and Snatch director Guy Ritchie attached, but it did open the flood gates for a lot of speculation and rumors surrounding Journey 2 star Dwayne Johnson, who has shown great chops in both comedy and action, to play the wisecracking, anti-hero biker comic book character. Now Johnson himself has confirmed the news on Twitter saying, "Rumors of me possibly playing Lobo are true." But is it a done deal yet? Read on!
It doesn't sound like there's an official deal in place for Johnson, but the actor says, "Joel Silver and Brad Peyton are working on it now. That could be fun." Honestly, Johnson never worked for me as an actor until he started going back and forth between comedy and action, especially after hosting "Saturday Night Live" early on in his acting career. Johnson just has tons of charisma and really throws himself into every role. His characters may not always be different, and his movies may not all be home runs, but he's good at what he does, and I can't take what away from him.
But the question remains whether or not this adaptation of Lobo will do the comics justice as Peyton has only been a director to deliver family friendly action adventure, and this needs to be funny, but a little dark too. Upon his revival in the 90's, Lobo became an anti-hero biker meant to serve as a parody of other violent heroes such as Wolverine and the Punisher (both Marvel properties), with his stories featuring a nihilistic streak tinged with dark comedy and excessive violence. At this time he became one of the most popular characters from DC Comics, and it remains to be seen whether Peyton is the right director for the job.

Johnson can take on any role. Hopefully the script is violent and great.

Although this would be a cool role for Johnson, I was hoping one day he'd play Black Adam in a Shazam movie...
